Threads has gone for the gym membership model; no-one uses it, but you can't cancel.
It just hit me; the fact that you can't opt out of Threads without losing your Instagram too isn't a bug, it's a deliberate feature to keep people there and artificially inflate the user numbers. You never have to lose users if you make it very hard to leave.
