I write about music at https://itsthemusicinmylife.blogspot.com/. I blog about the whacky and wonderful Iowa Caucus stories at https://iowacaucusguy.blogspot.com
I don’t know anything about Anthony Fantano as a person , but I always hated his reviews in general as it all sounded like hipster crap. That Morgan Wallen is in his top streamed artists of 2025 only reassures me I was right about that.

Rocky Horror for sure.

Rocky 3 (no relation) as a kid

For good or bad, the Star Wars prequels

Actually a lot come to mind but I will just leave it there. I love watching movies and miss the theater going experience of the past.
1. Rocky Horror Picture Show

2. Seeing Star Wars in 1977

3. Pulp Fiction (6th viewing) in a drive-in theatre in Memphis

4. Seeing Mel Brooks' To Be Or Not To Be at an Army base theatre where they skipped a whole reel

BONUS: 16mm print of The Exorcist in a college student lounge. Still scary.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.

The fact Rob Sand plays Rummikub and it’s a popular game in our house isn’t an endorsement of him in and of itself. It’s also not not an endorsement.
Parents of kids roughly 5-18 will certainly know what happened here.

I read every word of this when I was about 14. It was kind of Wikipedia before the internet
Obviously, the tome that contains all of human knowledge (or so I surmised when I first encountered it at age seven)

Thai weekend I am writing about @mrjimbob.bsky.social who for my money has been put out the best body of work of any songwriter in the last five years. He has not one but two new albums.

Album Review- Jim Bob- Stick

I have been reading some old David Cay Johnston books and have to congratulate Politicians for making the IRS the enemy. I feel that tax reform is one thing that sunk Dems in ‘24. Congrats Politicians. If you are not undefeated, it’s probably pretty close.
True story: I submitted my taxes and the IRS called me. The agent actually laughed and said, you might be the worst at math I’ve ever seen. He proceeded to tell me how wrong I was and said, we corrected your math. Do yourself a favor: go to an accountant and he could not stop laughing!
Thanks to the IRS MATH Act, the IRS must now explain mistakes in plain English, show any adjustments, and put your 60-day appeal deadline front and center. It will be a major upgrade from previously confusing notices.

My preteen son wrote an original song but I haven’t told him it’s just “On a Rope” by Rocket From The Crypt. I figure I have time before I need to have that discussion

I love the people this time of year who share best of. Guy I know who listens to more pop than I do. I love your list. Person who happily shares his top album streams on Apple (even if he likes Emo more than I do). I will take a dozen over you over Pitchfork and their ilk. Dozen? More like 1000xs

Listening to “Hurts so Good” and realizing it is just UK glam in Americana clothing. (Almost like Mellencamp had just been in the studio with Mick Ronson. Wink wink). Also AI says it’s a cover song which I am sure John would love to hear.

This started out as a normal Too Much Joy interview (which I already had heard some of the anecdotes) but just about 20 minutes in, when Tim talks about Tapedeck, Rhapsody and the music industry (and the REM anecdote) it becomes fascinating.
Had a long, fun chat with The Music Lab podcast about Tapedeck (though the interviewer begins well back in my past):

Morrissey, JK Rowling and (name redacted) that I went to high school with are surely the Holy Trinity of “forgot what it was like to be an outsider when they were a teen”.

Just saw the global reset was coming and everything will be down for three days so a benevolent dictator will make certain people rich if they take their money out of FDIC insured banks. So that sounds pretty exciting

Ms IowaGuy: What generation are we?

Me- Generation X

Ms: You know I don’t really care what generation I am

Me: Exactly!

I didn’t realize Ron Wood sang “Ooh La La”. Assumed it was Ronnie Laine. I guess even I can be wrong at music trivia sometimes

One of my favorite moments of 2025 was Austin Murr signing an autograph for my son. My son is a Tigers fan and Murr was called up to the Tigers triple A team in September. Come to find out he went to DMACC the local community college. Austin Murr has a fan for life. We will be cheering for him
#Pack9 legends Austin Murr, Garrett Pennington & division-leading West Michigan sizzling 30-12 in second half of their Midwest League season. Murr has 19 extra base hits & 31RBI in 53 games. Pennington batting .351 w/10RBI in his 16 games since promotion (53 RBI total this year.)

Well, maybe….

Epic week for podcasts- Bo Gritz’s the topic on @iwriteok.bsky.social’s Behind the Bastards. Remember him as a hero of the Gun Show scene when I was a teen. While Timesuck has Go Ask Alice which I only found out few years ago was totally fabricated. Teen trainwreck reading that fascinated me

Not meaning to throw shade but pretty disheartening to go on social media and see how popular a cover band can be but bands with original material have empty rooms
