Apropos of nothing, here’s a few indie games that blew me away lately (some may get videos in the near future)

Today I’m thankful that Kojima had an editor tell him, ‘maybe break this half hour long monolog up with a boss fight?’

Slept til 7:30 in who knows how long!

Maybe because I was up at 2:30 cleaning projectile vomit off a wide variety of surfaces…

I kinda hate how so much conversation about specific games is “solving lore” like a puzzle rather than talking about emotions invoked. It’s like giant collective moments of missing the point

I’m glad I got to play Yakuza 1 when it first came out on the PS2

I didn’t *like* it but I get to hoard all that sweet, sweet gamer cred
My problem with Yakuza is that I played 0 first. That was a mistake. The other games aren't bad, it's just like... eating sushi for the first time at some legendary sushi joint in Japan and then only getting Very Good/Great Sushi after that and knowing you'll never have sushi that good again.
man i miss playing yakuza 0. very rare that you know you are playing one of the best games ever while you’re in the middle of it but that was the one.

Tempted to do this myself, spin up the ol’ Ico, SotC and Katamari discs I’ve hung onto

And jailbreak the shit out of it…
This Xmas, take @marioprime.bsky.social's advice on buying a used PS2:

"I've loved going back and rediscovering some truly terrible games from the [PS2] era ... To feel the passage of time. To feel that things do progress. And the art gets more interesting"

I will say, though, when SBH goes over the cave, it’s imagery and how the story takes a turn after it—

That’s very ‘belly of the whale’ coded, to bring it back to the Hero’s Journey

Not sayin, just sayin
Here's 40 minutes of insight gained from 20 years of highest-difficulty-possible replays, and some lit class analysis where caves are never just caves. It's resisting arbitrary negativity, while asking a big question about Konam crediting the actors. It's beautiful!

NEW VIDEO: Phoenix Games is beyond notorious for releasing metric tons of garbage for the the PlayStations 1 and 2, sometimes in compilations of asset flips.

What if, though, one of these games was kinda... okay? And how would such a thing be possible?

Something I try to keep in mind whenever I want to criticize a game’s writing

My background’s in film, totally different disciplines
anyway writing for games is uniquely challenging and broadly misunderstood by people who are not game writers

When I went to South Dakota earlier this year, I hated that she was plastered everywhere on billboards and that a tour guide went out of their way to tell us how great a horseback rider she is

Almost ruined an otherwise pristine landscape

tbh I think I’m also trying to work through what my ‘style’ is. It’s pretty safe to say almost every one of my videos are stylistically different from the last and tend to emulate the game I’m covering in some way

I like that I’ve done that? But I also don’t feel ‘distinct’ or true to myself
