The IRS announced that churches and other houses of worship are now allowed to endorse political candidates to their congregations, effectively carving out an exemption to the longstanding ban on political activity by tax-exempt nonprofits.

Reports that a Canadian citizen who has resided in the US since age 10 was abducted at a green card interview.

Her husband is begging ICE to let him fly her back to Canada and they refuse to release her.

just saw a group of masked men stuffing masked ICE agents into an unmarked car, who were saying "we're ICE we're ICE!" but the abductors shouted to the crowd "no we're ICE!" no one knew who was ICE, so no one in the crowd said anything.

My hot take is that the ppl who say they are not disabled by their autism have likely gone their whole lives having the preponderance of their support needs met and therefore don't feel unduly limited in their lives.
"I'm not disabled by my autism" and "autism is not a disability" are not equally valid statements. The first is a personal sentiment about one's own experience. The second is a blanket, and incorrect statement about autism as a whole. (1)

Everything we’re dealing with now is fallout from decades’ worth of mistakes that have been compounded because the people who made them have hung onto power and hidden their crimes.

God help us. What a truly awful moment and we’re all stuck here against our will.

This isn't all of the story, but a surprisingly big part of the "fear" of Mamdani isn't actually that he'll institute full communism, it's that people's friends-and-influence groups will be demoted from their positions of authority

The Kool-Aid Man is often depicted with a smaller pitcher of Kool-Aid: himself.

This recursive image invites a layered semiotic reading destabilizing the boundaries between subject and object, container and contained, body and commodity, to highlight a profound paradox in capitalist symbolism of

One problem with lots of the legal advice about resisting ICE going around: they don't care about the law.
Private space, they don't care.
No warrant, they don't care.
They'll kidnap you and if the mistake is egregious, they won't care.

When we say that ableism is interwoven with all systems of oppression, we mean it!
Yesterday I was reading an article about the food "aid" sites in Gaza. None of the food is gluten free, dairy free, or low fodmap. And for the people who will scoff, Gaza has high rates of autoimmune GI diseases like Celiac, Crohn's, and Ulcerative Colitis.

That means this "aid" will kill them.

Reminder: jury nullification won't be in your jury instructions and is not something you're allowed to talk about in court. If you bring up jury nullification during jury selection, you WILL be thrown off the jury.

Want to nullify? Just vote to acquit. That's all nullification is: a vote to acquit.
It’s a great time to talk to your family and friends about jury nullification 👍

my takeaway from this feature is that in a functioning political system there would be televised congressional hearings over the fact that one of the most influential people in the white house is a total maniac www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

The reactionary blogger’s call for a monarch to rule the country once seemed like a joke. Now the right is ready to bend the knee.
