Pretty damn spot-on, don’t you think?

I was today years old when I learned that road traffic collisions alone (~£36bn) cost the UK economy more than the combined revenue of fuel duty & VED (~£35bn).

An actual comment from someone on the "Being seen by drivers is YOUR responsibility" circuit:

Saw this on a local page.

Do always remember, if it's dark outside, one should always think about the poor drivers before one leaves the house, and don one's fluorescent jacket.

And if you are of course nearly flattened, do remember to keep things civil & gentlemanly, whatwhat.

God I'm so sick of the slogan 'Back British Farming'.

Why is anyone supposed to automatically bestow greater importance to someone just because they are British.

Back EVERYONE!

How is that once again, the Tories are coming out looking cleaner on worker benefits than the Labour Party?

First the bus fare cap, now this.

Five years ago first Bill I worked on was for pensions dashboard, so people can keep track of own money.

Still not implemented.

A modern, functional system of governance - it would be a good idea. As would #FinancialSector working for real economy, not just itself

Labour quietly ditches Tory ‘pot for life’ pensions plan
Tory Jeremy Hunt’s plan was meant to stop workplace pension pots being lost as workers change jobs — but was widely criticised by the savings industry.

The more I think on the new farm tax, the more I'm thinking it's been misjudged.

It comes down to where we draw the line on "small" farms, & currently £1m is probably not it.

I'd be happy to see the policy tweaked but NOT before a discussion on the paradox of high land values & low farm incomes.

Genuine question, why is agricultural land so expensive?

If farming results in such famously meagre profits, who would (or could) pay £10,000+ per acre for practically no return?

Something doesn't add up about all this.

Question for the void:

If a farmer gifts his farm (the business assets, not a house) to his child at least 7 years before they die, would the child have to pay capital gains tax and how would this be calculated?

Watch Jeremy Clarkson get owned by a journalist👇

Love where he compares "4%" of ppl currently paying inheritance tax to "96%" of farmers who'll now need to.

The 4% is PER YEAR, Jeremy. 96% of farmers won't be inheriting a farm every year will they?

Too much emphasis is on net-zero 'how' & too little on the 'why'.

Don't think someone who takes 4 overseas holidays/yr & drives a Porsche Cayenne has any understanding of how rainfall patterns are causing crops to fail in Central America.

An easy UK resource is to watch more Simon Reev on iplayer.

Fill in the blank👇

"All you need to be is BLANK and you just get given everything for free"

I suppose this could be:
A: an immigrant (at best receiving a roof over their head)
B: a benefit claimant (at best receiving a meagre living)
C: a farmer's child (apparently at least £1m in business assets)
