We as humans tend to personify things, and this whole thread is a prime example. LLMs cannot think, they can only respond. They may emit a thought process, but that's not thinking. An LLM is just a large matrix that gets multiplied to get the next response. It's no more feeling than predictive text.
humans: we dehumanize things that we choose not to understand

There’s going to be Covid style shortages of cars, TVs and even washing machines and fridges, then job losses because assembly lines can’t source solid state memory, just so the stupidest person you know can state with 100% confidence a chatbot confirmed dinosaurs coexisted with humans.
I understand framing the AI bubble RAM supply crisis in terms of stuff like video game consoles because nerds can conceptualize that but the framing does really undersell the sheer magnitude of how it's going to fuck up everything that even touches a computer.

Nobody talks about the crazy bass in Bowser’s battle theme in Bowser’s inside story. Reusing the violin as a pseudo-synth bass is awesome and it sounds really good.

It's hilarious that people would argue and block you instead of admitting that they were wrong. I was reminded of this argument I had with a techbro on Threads who couldn't fathom that I didn't have a data plan for my watch. It's not as funny when it's mostly tech jargon, but still funny.

It's funny that the array size of 4 applies to uint32_t then the constant applies to the pointer which then that constant pointer applies to the uint32_t with the array size of 4. This is "correct" but it is so ugly and I need to dereference it every time. Glad it's static and the shame is hidden.

it's kinda fucked up that we universally agree that if a programmer lacks art skills, them resorting to using ai is wrong...

but a lot of artists seem to be okay with using ai, just because they lack the programming skills

where do we draw the line? what makes one ethical and the other one not?

You know what I really want to see? An Alpine Linux style FreeBSD OS. A super minimal OS with a quick binary package manager (not pkgsrc), Busybox-like BSD utils, and OpenRC. I like how simple Alpine Linux is and how small the surface area is, and I would love to see a minimal FreeBSD.

Adobe is killing Animate! Oh no!

It's a good thing I have this trial version of Adobe Master Collection CS4 that is totally legal to share to download that has absolutely nothing to do with this image, nor would typing in a certain number during install convert it into a full version, not at all.

Very hyped for the new Tomodachi Life. I didn’t really watch the Direct, but I hope it supports transferring Miis from a 3DS. I’ll need to figure out how to transfer my Miis from my DS to a Japanese 3DS to an American 3DS to the Switch

I’ve seen a lot of people defending heavy-handed copyright laws just because AI is training on torrented books forgetting that the people who benefit from those laws would outlaw libraries if they could

Seeing the AI tainted software repo made me think about how a lot of people complain about AI but don’t actually do anything to curve unnecessary usage. A big one is switching to another search engine where you can control the AI overview or disable it.

You know it’s funny that the PS5 outsold the Switch 2. I feel like this is karma for Nintendo being stingy with their Switch 2 devkits and now there are hardly any Switch 2 exclusives, so there’s not a strong reason to upgrade.
