Reading is a privilege that many have died for. Don’t take it for granted

Can’t emphasize this enough: if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the debased assault on our country, the antidote is connecting with other people in the flesh who are feeling the same way. There are millions of us.

Firing the Joint Chief Chair and replacing him with an under-qualified white man is the definition of unfair preferential hiring practices. It’s why they hate DEI so much, they see it as their invention being used against them
Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story.

Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver.

This is what "merit" means to them.

“That is why Trumpists are so focused on “ending DEI” in the federal workforce. They see anti-discrimination and inclusion as a ladder of upward mobility for people they do not believe should have one.”
The Great Resegregation
The Trump administration’s attacks on DEI are aimed at reversing the civil-rights movement.

Anyone looking to ban a book from a school should have to prove they read it by presenting a book report to the school committee.

Do me a kindness! Share this if you love and support your local library & librarians (and remember: that includes your school library & school librarian) 😊📚

Thank you libraries & library workers… for everything ✨💚

Remember you can make a difference!

Get a library card—even if you don’t plan to use it. Your registration helps secure funding for libraries, keeping them open and thriving for the entire community. Every card counts!

I spent a good chunk of today in a public library. Just can't emphasize enough what a good thing libraries are. Truly one of humanity's best ideas. 1/3

Every time I go to a public library I begin to believe again that we can create amazing things that are just there for all to enjoy and use for free.

Here’s a New Year’s Resolution:

Stand with the readers, not the book banners.

Choose knowledge, stories, and freedom of thought.

If your goal this year is to read more books, remember:

you don’t have to finish every book you start. If you’re halfway through and can’t stand the characters or just don’t care what happens, it’s okay to put it down.

Life’s too short to read books you don’t love!

Tell your kids, seek out the librarians…instead of a policeman.🧐 It’d be safer, imo.

Banned books make excellent presents for teenagers and young adults!

Push back and flood society with the titles these pieces of shit want to ban.

Do you want to know why
I 💚 libraries so much?

They were my salvation when I had nowhere else to go for answers to my (many) questions.

Libraries informed me of good influences, art, culture, history, music, science, and just whatever general knowledge struck my fancy at the time.

SOMETHING TO KEEP YOU OFF THE LEDGE:

"If you ever get the blues about the status of American culture, there are still more public libraries than there are McDonald's. During the worst of the Depression, not one public library closed its doors."
