In the spirit of the spooky season, I thought I'd post a little reading excerpt from my chapbook, Ghost Mom (@stanchion.bsky.social). While not exactly scary, there are ghosts so there's that. Anyways, I'll be posting one story a week for the month of October.

I could REALLY use more orders of Issue 20. SRSLY.

This is a celebration of 5 years of a magazine that pays, prints, nominates for awards, fulfills orders immediately, doesn't charge fees or ask for donations & champions its contributors. Here's what's inside the anniversary issue

I used a calculator to make sure I did this correctly because I was so stunned I did not believe it:

Our family's ACA plan is going up 1000.52% in 2026.

1000% and that is no exaggeration. For a plan that already has a $2000 per-person deductible before anything kicks in. WE CANNOT AFFORD IT!

It's here and it is beautiful. The culmination of 5 years of making an elegant print magazine full of brilliant stories, poems, and photographs. It's almost enough to make me cry.

I love many things about what @lindzmcleod.bsky.social did with An Honour & a Privilege, but best of all is that it's a book that can be enjoyed by readers (thanks to 11 remarkable pieces of original fiction) AND writers, because the authors discuss process in paired nonfiction conversation pieces!
Yes I smell the books 2x during this video!

Collaborative writing & the craft of collaborative writing in one gorgeous book. @lindzmcleod.bsky.social et al, we've made a beautiful, purposeful book!!

Order your copy & breathe it in, too, & get a free bookmark!

Unfortunately my guest for this week fell through, so this episode is going up a little bit late, and I did something a bit different for it: I read three excerprts from pieces by two writers. Sorry it's not the usual thing! But if you do like it, let me know; it's a convenient format to have.

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."
