New discovery that may help combat Dengue, a virus with few treatment options
Researchers found a bacteria that appears to prevent spread of Dengue virus. Areas where it is present have low rates of infection and it is not present in places where rates are high.

Skara Brae’s very own super bowl is this one, carved from a single whale vertebra. Whales weren’t hunted in Neolithic Orkney, so it must have come from a washed up or stranded animal.

It’s at least 4500 years old and almost 30cm across. You can see it in our permanent exhibition at the site.
