Question for communicable disease experts: Can you catch a cold from your child coughing directly into your face multiple times over a prolonged period? And as a follow-up, is it safe to eat the rest of this bowl of goldfish crackers that she’s been coughing on? Thanks in advance for your advice.

It's amazing how Bjork's album Post still sounds like music of the future even though it is 30 years old. Like, if there were some alternate universe in which Bjork was born 30 years later and this album just came out today, I'd be like, Holy shit, what a fresh sound I love this.

Instead of feeding people who are hungry, we are investing half our economy to make our celebrity deep fake videos more convincing.

My 7-year-old dressed her giraffe for a dance party tonight. “She put the feather in her hat and called it macaroni,” she told me.

Inspiration Blues by Warren Dunes is such a good song.

Is it possible to die from hearing KPop Demon Hunters songs too many times?

I saw someone (I forget where) write a few days ago, What if the House just stays in recess forever? Like, what if we’re all sitting here not realizing that the Legislative Branch abolished itself September 19? Trump is already facing zero consequences for illegal actions that defy Congress.

I HATE how much of being online is now just a tiresome game of playing amateur AI detective. Image generation has already ruined the joyful whimsy of seeing an unusual photo online, and now it’s doing the same to video.

American innovation and efficiency is amazing. 100 years ago, people thought the Teapot Dome scandal was a big deal. Now the White House can effortlessly knock out half a dozen Teapot Domes before they've finished their morning raw milk protein shakes.

Ugh, just got sloplash real bad.

Sloplash - The feeling when one’s soul is crushed upon realizing that something they thought was good and real is actually just AI slop.

I suspect that over the past 15 years, the Mariners spent more time within two games of the postseason cutoff line than any other team, and it is not even close. Any baseball stat geeks (complimentary) know how to check this?

We need a word for the gutting disappointment you feel when you see something that warms your heart and fills you with optimism but then your realize it was AI generated and never actually happened.

My seven-year-old saw this sign while we were waiting in a line for the bathroom and asked, “Why are only men allowed in that elevator?”

Sick of your pocket calculator using woke math? The all-new CalcGOP uses advanced technology to check with the Trump White House to ensure it never gives an answer that might offend the President. If woke math is detected, CalcGOP will automatically suggest a government-approved alternative!

Usually I am frustrated by the seemingly normal words that Firefox's spell checker does not know. But I'm actually impressed by this one. I will not be clicking "add to dictionary." What a horrible word.

Slashing Medicaid will kill poor and disabled Americans. Republicans know this and are trying to do it, anyway. This is what an actual extremist policy looks like. It kills people. Yet shitty Dems want to spend their time attacking Mamdani. Fight for the people, not against them. This is dire.

I was obsessed with Smile by the Beach Boys back when the lost tapes leaked onto file sharing networks in the early 2000s. Nobody knew the song order until he performed it live in 2004, so everyone had to take these bootlegged tapes and try to create their own mixes. It was a lot of fun.

Tom's solution to reducing consumption to save the planet and your pocket book: Analysis paralysis. Wanna buy something? Spend an hour researching every possible option, carefully weighing the value of each only to conclude that by far the best bang for your buck is just using what you already have.
