First post. Bio has most of my interests already. I'm a lurker and reposter by nature, shy and deeply convinced that I am not very interesting, at least in this kind of venue. But so many of you are! So here I am. Thank you for sharing yourselves and your passions with me.

The “Debate Me Bro” Grift: How Trolls Weaponized The Marketplace Of Ideas
Among the attempts to create hagiographic eulogies of Charlie Kirk, I’ve seen more than a few people suggest that Kirk should be respected for being willing to talk to “those who disagree with him” as a sign that he was engaging in good faith. Perhaps the perfect example of this is Ezra Klein’s silly eulogy claiming that Kirk was “

It’s horrific and inexplicable. Donald Trump and RFK Jr. are objectively pro-cancer. They’re destroying the entire infrastructure that has made so much progress and is poised to make much more. People will suffer and die because of them. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/14/m...

Awesome news!
Let’s give it up for Ohio—every single library levy on Tuesday’s ballot passed, some by blowout margins.

While GOP extremists try to slash $91M in library funding, voters showed up to say loud and clear: we believe in books, not bans. 📚

RFK Jr. wants everyone to be infected with vaccine-preventable disease.

He thinks it’s no big deal if your infant or your mom undergoing through chemo dies from a VPD.

He thinks that if you die from a VPD, you are weak or you don’t “eat right” or you don’t exercise.

He thinks you deserve it.

Fellow #Mets fans: there's always a way around the horrible Fox broadcast! Our own Howie Rose on the radio! If outside NYC area and in the US, a small monthly fee gets you a radio feed to every game on the MLB site. Mute TV, use ff/rw/pause controls to sync up and poof! Intelligent commentary! #LGM

Americans succeeded at creating a social material environment of (relative) safety but failed to produce a learning environment that would successfully communicate the reasons to maintain an environment of safety after the normal harms of the world passed out of common memory
Snark aside, I'm honestly baffled. I know I show my naïveté daily, but aren't even most rich, powerful people concerned about food safety? Seems like you'd have to be Zuck or Bezos rich to be safe(ish). Not state politician or large landowner rich. Don't these folks buy groceries like everyone else?
I guess GenX trained for this, at least
