Hey @dansavage.bsky.social. I have been reading your work for decades and listening to your podcast since the beginning. I met you at a conference in 2001. I think you’re great.

But I have to give you feedback: you’re pronouncing Ross Rebagliati completely incorrectly.

Thank you to @thetyee.ca and @charlesrusnell.bsky.social for digging up information about Alberta's defacto premier Sam Mraiche! He's shy, but he seems to have friends everywhere!

Correct.
A thought. No matter how angry you might be about an egregious or noxious piece of public radio programming - you may want to consider the precedent/consequences of inviting cabinet ministers to interfere with such programming decisions. Because some day a future Heritage Minister may well do so.

Never forget that the main feature of Trump era is shamelessness.

Corruption does not matter any more in the U.S.

This will be horrific for the country.
Tom Homan basically admits to a quid pro quo for dropping the corruption charges against Mayor Eric Adams in exchange for enforcing Donald Trump's mass deportation plan.

"If he doesn't come through...I'll be in his office, up his butt, saying 'where the hell is the agreement we came to?'"

Vile.

I'm not going to link it, but @dhume.bsky.social wrote a column about moving Palestinians that argued "We used to rip people out of their homes and move them all the time. It caused death, misery and resentment. Why did we stop?"

He used the Partition of India as a successful example.

Wild.

As usual, @danaditomaso.com gave a summarized and excellent breakdown of Deepseek this morning on CBC's Edmonton AM this morning. I couldn't be bothered with all the fuss, but she gave me what I needed to know.

She remains an essential listen for me on Monday morning. Thank you Dana!

Staunching the flow of drugs, whether they come from Canada or Mexico, will likely increase crime rates in the US.

Drugs will be consumed. Making it harder to buy them increases their prices. This means people will get funds any way they can, including theft. This is well-established.

Here’s the thing:

The way things are going, even having a queer or BIPOC employee will be seen as a DEI measure.

Count on it. See, that’s the thing. Behind the hate for DEI is unspoken racism that only white people are qualified and how dare anyone think otherwise.

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last.

Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.

To BIPOC friends and people:

To a large portion of the Canadian population, the white, so-called Old Stock, you will never be Canadian enough. Ever, no matter what you do.

Conduct yourself accordingly. Don’t beg for acceptance, don’t beg for something you’ll never get.

A good summary of the anger and glee in the reaction to the murder of Brian Thompson.

There is a lot to learn from the reaction to this shooting. The American healthcare system is expensive, inefficient and barbaric.

He shouldn’t have been shot. People should not be denied life-saving treatment.
I wrote about the coverage of the online reaction to the UnitedHealth CEO's death and how the media will always center those in power.

If you've watched a loved one suffer and die from insurance denial, it's normal to wish the people responsible would suffer the same fate.
Why "we" want insurance executives dead
No, that does not mean people should murder them. But if you've watched a loved one suffer and die from insurance denial, it's normal to wish the people responsible would suffer the same fate.
