Those engaged in "brand protection" are the folks in politics who believe there's a decent chance we'll get through this, but they don't wanna spend any political capital to proactively help because they wanna come out on the other side of this thing stronger than ever, so they stay low-key.

House Oversight Committee currently debating a bill to extend the congressional review period for all DC bills to 60 days.

Congressional review days are only counted when they are in session.

Congress averages only 147 days per year in session.

Y’all, do the math.

I think this article has some facts wrong. The budget language preventing DOJ from enforcement explicitly includes DC with the listed states.
Column: Trump’s interim U.S. Attorney is coming for the capital’s weed — and threatening to upend a tacit agreement where federal prosecutors have respected Washington’s local marijuana laws, writes Michael Schaffer.

I agree with this. When I see Bondi and Rubio go on Fox defending Abrego Garcia’s plight, all I see are scared shitless opportunists. They were told nobody would care and now everyone cares. I fear for García.

Please send each of these guys a copy of ETTD. They clearly didn’t read it.
Since tariffs, I noticed a surprising trend: elite Trump supporters saying they might have made a mistake. So I asked them what they were thinking, both in November and today.

One big takeaway: they thought Elon was actually competent. That error proved catastrophic.

I believe all of this. Anyone, or institution, not anti-Trump will eventually become useful to him. Pick a side.

It’s quite possible that the DC provision was placed in the bill believing DC might continue to spend its own money because $1bn is a lot to cut. This would trigger a legal basis to end Home Rule.
Schumer says they’ll fix DC funding in a standalone bill.

I’ll take things that aren’t going to happen for $500, Alex.

The removal of the BLM plaza today is a perfect metaphor to what is happening. Things will only get worse.
This week, D.C. officials have been engaged in lobbying, but the volume and tenor of their complaints is markedly different than what happened in 2011. That's especially true for the mayor. Bowser has been largely silent in recent days, opting to work behind the scenes.
March 14, 2025 at 3:49 PM
By voting for the CR won’t you be undercutting every legal case against DOGE firings and cuts? Voting yes is the worse choice. Your instincts are wrong here.
Donald Trump and Elon Musk want a shutdown to destroy vital government services faster.

It would be a disaster.

And we have to alert everyone how much pain it would cause the American people.

From my interview on @allinwithchris.bsky.social:

The GOP is now the party of Defund the Police. And of course they are, it was MPD that stopped the J6 insurrection. To vote for this CR is to cripple DC.
It is not too late to take action! You can make a big difference by calling Senators and asking them to “vote ‘no’ on cloture and ‘no’ on any CR that harms D.C.”

Dem leadership is acting like we aren’t already at a DEFCON 1. At this point a default on the debt is our best hope of getting out of this mess without a future civil war. JFC.
2. Desiderio is reporting that Gillibrand is advocating against a shutdown, saying, “This will not be a normal shutdown.”
March 14, 2025 at 12:30 AM
When Schumer and his ilk and the GOP vote for this crippling bill let’s prioritize DC cuts to MPD and Fire EMS to the Capitol Hill houses in which they live. F this shit.

This CR as written will cripple DC. Sending funding back to 2024 levels is INSANE. It won’t even save the federal budget one dime. This is DC tax dollars.
Shocking that Democrats would not vote for a CR that funds the government for 6 months and allows Elon Musk to make unilateral spending cuts during that time. What an amazing offer!

The GOP is now the party of defund the police. Tens of millions cut from MPD if this passes.
The Continuing Resolution would require the District to immediately cut $1 billion from a local budget that is already balanced — forcing deep cuts to police, firefighters, trash collection, homelessness services, and schools. It hurts everyone's goal of a safer and stronger DC.
It's shaping up to be a *very bad week* for D.C. The draft congressional spending bill to avert a federal shutdown would force D.C. to trim $945 million from its current fiscal year budget, which would spark immediate cuts to programs and staff. From @murray.senate.gov:
March 10, 2025 at 8:55 PM
Sometimes I wish the DC government would set up a separate fund for all DC residents to direct deposit their federal tax withholding/income tax into. Let the feds sue us and then we can have a taxation without representation constitutional fight. At a minimum it would gum things up for them.
BREAKING: DC Mayor Muriel Bowser says Black Lives Matter Plaza will be changed, becoming part of a mural marking America's 250th birthday. This comes as Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) pushes a bill to strip DC of funds unless the name & mural are removed.
