There isn't a single problem "solved" by edtech that couldn't be fixed with smaller classes led by well-paid teachers given real academic freedom

The first school to market itself as AI free is going to corner the market on people interested in actually learning. And I would not be surprised if rich families and the children of people creating this tech were the first movers.
My employer, Dartmouth College, today boasts it's 1st Ivy "to launch AI at an institutional scale." It is doing this by partnering--"more than a collaboration"--with Anthropic, a company that stole the books of many faculty, me included, which many of us are suing.

Would love to see @emilymbender.bsky.social @alexhanna.bsky.social and @karenhao.bsky.social turn their books into teaching units for faculty and students. Have been spreading the gospel on AI con and AI empire, but nobody puts it as precisely and compellingly as these three.

This is so disturbing, on top of everything else that is already disturbing and disgusting. Every year I pull up the LOC website for this exact page transcribing the U.S. Constitution. Each year I make a case for learning cursive to read the document yourself.
**I would add coding to that toolkit**

Canvas just became one of the most powerful surveillance, IP theft, & data monetization tools in the world.

OpenAI bought a user-base locked in to long-term contracts.

But they can’t make us use their trashware.

Boycott. Luddify. Open source.

Don’t let them have your work or your students.

Every book published in the United States is sent to the Library of Congress. Also, if you are under 16 you cannot use the reading room or order books.
Reporter: The president fired the Librarian of Congress. Why?

Leavitt: There were quite concerning things she had done at the Library of Congress in the pursuit of DEI and putting inappropriate books in the library for children.

This makes me sad. I didn’t participate in this program but the Boston National Historical Park gave me an internship when I asked & hired me through its college program as a seasonal interp ranger. I still use the skills I learned in the NPS in @bfworld.bsky.social.

Last night was a hectic one. In case you missed it:

DOGE put a college student in charge of using AI to rewrite housing regulations. Because who needs experts when you’ve got ChatGPT and an economics and data science major?

And yes—this may be rolling out across government. Cool cool cool.

Congress literally created an Alien Terrorist Removal Court for the expeditious removal of aliens who are designated as terrorists, under a preponderance of evidence standard.

I think problem isn’t the time it would take, but the fact that the government would have to produce actual evidence
