People can believe what they want, but the bedrock of this piece is "how we will pay for the status quo in an independent Wales?" as if it hasn't occurred to him that such a thing is not what independent Wales would want to pay for, eg no thought that we might not want UK military spending levels.
If Wales was independent, it would be the 137th largest country in population. The GVA per capita of many countries is lower than that of Wales. So why, knowing Wales is neither too small nor too poor to be independent, do I oppose independence? ✍️ Mike Hedges, MS for Swansea East
Welsh Independence - paying the price.

Norway paddling Italy away. Ireland’s 96th minute hat trick goal keeping them alive. Ukraine getting a playoff place despite *all that* - that’s just today. It’ll be a shame when it’s time for the club football break.

Also include as part of the new parliament 650 en-suite rooms, with a desk, nice chair and WiFi and make all the MPs live in it when they’re down there. They don’t need a free house/flat on top of all the rest of it. It would be awful, but that’s why they should do it.
Massively impractical, a death trap and its mere existence is costing £81 million a year. Turn it into a museum or a hotel or something and move parliament somewhere more central in the nation, everybody's life will be better.
A final decision on how to repair Britain’s crumbling parliament is likely to be postponed beyond the next general election, according to four people familiar with the matter.

A funny old game. A magnificent 1st half, followed by lead in the boots in the 2nd. A shine given by a penalty shoot out win when nobody knew these games were settled by them! 607 there when more than 700 went in Rhyl for a game without Wales says something, ie play games where clubs promote them.

And the problem for me from here on in is that I’m thrilled that Labour voters saw the bigger picture in Caerphilly to vote for Plaid. But if the deal means I have to vote for Labour in Wrexham…I’m sorry, they can get to fuck, not doing that because they’re like this now.
This is as bad as anything proposed by Reform.

Leaving refugees in permanent limbo and unable to build a new life in the UK would be a complete abdication of our humanitarian responsibilities

Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

It’s the wildest thing that England are this reliable and England fans aren’t just bored shitless, they’re actually willing on the destruction of international football, without considering that it’s only them that are absolutely tedious & toxic. All that and they haven’t even fucking won anything.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🛏️ England still haven’t conceded a goal in the current World Cup qualifying period.

Jordan Pickford now has 10 clean sheets in a row for his country, a run that goes back to October 2024.

Thank god this didn’t get delivered to the club when Fleur was around, a banning order for holding a smoke bomb would have been the least of your worries #wxmafc
Posted by the club this morning and wondering why there's a creepy looking guy looking like the Grim Reaper standing what looks like a hangman's noose? It's too early for this. #askwxm

Group stage of the EFL Trophy complete. Of the 16 under-21 teams in it, 15 are out - hilariously West Ham are the survivors. Who would have thought that the biggest argument against B teams in the system would be that they’re absolutely shit?

Not quite the fireworks of last week in Llanrhaeadr, but a slow burn which provided plenty to get your teeth into. Result probably never in doubt so we had to rely on a superb second goal, a bit of handbags and a pheasant running around the place for the drama.

22 years to the day that I saw Wrexham lose 5-4 at Stockport, with a perfect view of one firework display on one side of their main stand, and another on the other side. If the charity penalty had gone to us in extra time and not them it would have been perfect. Can Portsmouth offer that? #wxmafc

There are simply loads of “on my first day at first team training I put my kit on a peg & returned to find all my stuff thrown in the shower. It was the legendary Joe McJoe’s peg” and nobody ever asks why players are so fucking weird about that shit, or why new players aren’t told what pegs are ok.
There’s a passage in Justin Marshall’s autobiography about how he was nearly strangled when senior players grabbed his ABs tie as he tried to sit too close to the back of the team bus. He concludes his near death experience was a sign of good team spirit.
