Okay, in the near future I really gotta anime-eyes atcha for a possible broach. (I'm getting into capes & ruanas for coats and have no broaches & have loved your work for... ha, decades now. 😅)

When it starts getting dark in late afternoon, we put up fairy/xmas lights and have them on a timer for the early morning and a chunk from afternoon through evening. It helps a little to make it feel more cozy.

*crosses fingers* I'm so glad you're getting some relief! I hope there's a way forward that's sustainable for you.

Used books have the benefit that if you loan your copy to a friend to read, they might love it enough to go buy their own copy or snag the latest by the author. Piracy downloads tend to edge towards a level of digital hoarding, in my experience. Not much actual shared enthusiasm for the artists.

Anthologies are a great way to try out new-to-you authors at a lower investment point, too!

I've discovered a number of fantastic authors by trying out anthologies that either had an interesting theme or had an author or two I already enjoyed in them.

To be fair, you *do* love your shitposting and for some reason all your mundane brings the trolls to the yard... So, I mean, "interesting" is sometimes by design & sometimes by Universe seeming to use you as a handy target. 😏
November 24, 2025 at 5:38 PM
Absolutely! AND... well, if you live in a hyperliterate city, sometimes multiple copies only help so much. 😅

(Flashbacks to a popular sequel getting in the catalog as pre-order for 20 digital copies & 3 weeks before release, the hold queue was 700+. Yay, demand?)

Ah. Someone who thinks wage theft is ethical (bc art is labor -- piracy, especially of self-pub work, is stealing someone's labor). Great hot take. Very convincing. Much wow. 🙄

Hey there, I'm not awake enough yet (Pacific Time), but I'm saving your request so that I can do some digging for you once I'm actually coherent. I'll try to find you some resources later today.

Which sucks, & is stupid, but ALSO, if it does happen, it sometimes takes literally years for the policy to pay out if the insurance company decides to fight which person's insurance pays. Have friends with med bills from a 2021 accident that still isn't resolved.
It's broke over here for so much.

My insurance is low (no at fault accidents in 20+ years, various insurance table boosts), but I'm still paying about $1000/year.

I do live in a major city, which spikes it a bit. A lot of the US price is the assumption that the car insurance will be paying for medical if injuries happen.

Really enjoying the simplicity of this composition. Perfect choice on the sharp detailed bird with blurred background, that blur is like watercolor.
Took a moment this morning to envision sitting in a field, letting birdsong wash over. Thank you for the inspiration.

Yeah, been there. Soggy middles are a hazard. I limit myself to first 3 in a series where the prose grabs me (I preview on Kobo or Amazon before buying as close to the author's site as I can), OR under $20. If it keeps me occupied for at least 2hrs, $20 is a movie ticket these days, so still a win.😅

Handily, both library systems have online forms for requesting, so it's just a matter of sitting down at a computer & cross referencing for the form fill.
Second task: budget & go through the book threads & discover more shinies. 😁
November 24, 2025 at 7:16 AM
I am a total bookwhore... So much that when our county library system announced that major city residents could ALSO have a card there, I probably made a cartoon dust trail hustling over to sign up. 😅
Impatient? See if you qualify for another library system with shorter queues. 😉

Also, please share @tychebooks.bsky.social book posts because she is one of the few Canadian small presses left AND she pays everyone on time and in full. And people are stealing my book she published.

Don't worry about me, but maybe share Skyla's direct buy store b/c that's where she makes the absolute most money - and she has vet bills. I cannot imagine seeing an author post "I have two cats nearing the end" and go oh, I should steal from her.

*waves chronic condition card wildly* If anybody wants a whole screed on free library access virtually (for ebooks, audiobooks, and usually free subscription accesses too), I could probably throw something together. If these leeches are downloading, then they can handle digital. 🙃
