The Dayton Daily news cut its Community Impact Editor—the guy responsible for connecting the paper to the community.
This isn’t just downsizing. It’s killing the watchdog when 2 much government & corruption make oversight more essential than ever.
Dayton deserves better.

if capital can't justify the operating costs of a newspaper in every city over a few hundred thousand people (even though this worked profitably for decades) i think it's up to the federal government to fund them and if red states don't like a bunch of big city libs reporting on them, all the better
"The newspaper industry served as a feeder for our entire news media ecosystem. So when we lose those newspapers, we've lost that journalism. In the early 2000s, we had 40 journalists per 100,000 people. We're now down to 8 journalists per 100,000 people," says @victorpickard.bsky.social.

"Wait it's all Ohio?"
A popular way of telling someone not to get annoyed in the UK is “don’t get your knickers in a twist.” The US equivalent to which is “don’t get your panties in a bunch.” A better version, in my opinion, is a phrase I’ve heard a few times in the north of England... “don’t get on your huffy bike.”

I watched some of the Indiana Senate vote yesterday and Chris Garten is a star. That man shit his pants so hard he's guaranteed a spot as deputy something-or-another once the first round of regime heads roll.

Nice commercial making fun of Directional Universities, Dr. Pepper.

The only time I ever received complaints as a campus tour guide at a MAC school was when I'd tell people wearing Big Ten apparel to take it off or cover it up.

Was thinking about Burns' "The American Revolution" again last night, specifically Banastre "No Quarter" Tarleton.

I had a serious point to make but then found a truly baffling result searching "Battle of Waxhaws" on here.
