I had basically the same thought, so this perspective is valuable.

1) I agree this is gross
2) Virtually every jail in the United States operates the same way
3) Most every low security prison in the United States operates in the same way
(I was incarcerated in 160 person pole barns that look just like those pods)

At what point does one of these people decide it is more noble to go down fighting? A frightening potential for an innocent bystander to be severely hurt, or worse.
This is so fucked up. ICE agents in Massachusetts smashed the window of a car to grab a Guatemalan guy who was with his wife. They were waiting for their lawyer to arrive because he has a pending asylum case.
