Maybe THIS will be the dumbest thing I read today: Florida’s education commissioner announced Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice as a book of the month to “highlight the importance of American pride.”

Was recently regaling friends with children in daycare with the fact that in 1993, several Clinton appointees’ nominations were sunk by revelations that they didn’t pay employment taxes on their nannies.

That’s what used to qualify as a great big DC scandal.
I’ve said this before but it still boggles my mind that when Nixon said “when the president does it, that means that it is not illegal” that was the checkmate that destroyed his reputation. And now half the country seems fine with Trump using the same idea as his opening gambit.
The Supreme Court has agreed to consider whether a US citizen is above the law – a proposition that, if affirmed, would destroy the moral, legal, and political foundations of the Court itself.

The latest season of True Detective on HBO Max ended perfectly this week. And two of Alaska’s best actors, Diane Benson and Yaari Walker, both Alaska Native women, have nice meaty roles. Such a thrill to see them both!

As Covid rises again, killing about 1,500 Americans each week, researchers are trying to understand why so few high-risk patients are taking Paxlovid, a medicine that is stunningly effective in preventing severe illness and death from the disease.

With Covid deaths rising to about 1,500 per week, researchers question why Paxlovid use has remained low among high-risk patients.

I’ve wanted to see The Bridge of the Gods in Oregon ever since I first read about it years ago in “Wild” by Cheryl Strayed. It did not disappoint. My wonderful son drove me there today and took this great photo. The clouds and mist just made it all the more beautiful.

Wow I'm shocked that "return abortion to the states" turned out to be an obvious lie and in fact Republicans generally have zero interest in the public having any input on their rights and specifically want to criminalize abortion nationwide.
Republicans around the country are trying to block putting abortion on the ballot in 2024.

If you were going to start a blog right now, say with regular postings about being recently diagnosed with a dread disease, where would you host it? Substack? Squarespace? I’d like user friendly, easy access and uploads, photos, easy cross posting on social media, etc.
