In Arabic, 'SHARAB' means 'drink, beverage', which entered various European languages as some variant of SHIROP, or sciroppo, from which we get 'SYRUP', but when snow/ice was added, it was 'SHERBET'.

The French sherbet had alcohol added, and was 'SORBET'. It lost the booze link during Prohibition.

Today I learned that in Newcastle's metro system they have a station called Wallsend because it's the end of Hadrian's Wall

We got tricked by science fiction into thinking a futuristic city is all about flying cars and crystal towers and hologram billboards but what it really looks like is nice apartment blocks, good mass transit, pedestrian zones with shade trees and safe bike lanes.
