Given the discourse, I’m reminded of this classic paper that’s still influential among sociologists of race and ethnicity.

It argues that prejudice arises from a relative sense of “group position” when one group believes resources are their perogative.

Jobs are the paradigmatic example.

A CNN host asked these creeps: “Does it matter to you all who has more babies in America, or is this a universal thing for you?" Eventually the husband came out and said yeah it does.

He doesn't support possible "baby bonuses" for low-income people because they are "a drain on tax system"
Pronatalist Suggests He Doesn't Think People on Welfare Should Have More Babies
Fresh off proposing Nazi-like medals for having lots of kids, self-described pronatalist Malcolm Collins said not every American should get a "baby bonus."

I wrote about this a bit in my last book but it really shakes me that a defining feature of this catastrophic era is that we just keep going to work. We work through pandemics, we work through natural disasters, we work through economic calamity, we work through coups, we work, we work, we work.

For years I took on extra responsibilities, such as organizing events, without receiving recognition or credit for my leadership & the emotional labor involved, causing me to lose opportunities for advancement. Recently, I asked for help & received an email to say that my perseverance is inspiring.

Just a reminder: you are NOT unusual, weird, or unlovable if you have:

- no one to see on Christmas Day,
- no presents, or
- no contactable relatives.

Very few people live the idealised version on TV. Those of us who live differently—whether by choice or trauma—matter as much.

Very insightful new paper here on workplace bullying. Key findings from this meta-analysis - many interventions show limited success; lack of robust study designs; too much focus on individual-level strategies rather than addressing systemic org factors

When I was enduring chronic trauma, I sought ways to access community care. I found numerous resources suggesting that volunteering was a pathway to support. This reinforced the trauma-brain message that care is something to be earned, rather than something inherently deserved.
Trauma Brain will tell us we don't deserve support unless we can furnish "definitive proof" we "need" it-- as if there is ANY proof that will satisfy our trauma programming that we're "worthy" of help.

Trauma Brain is just trying to keep us alone & unresourced. Don't bite.
