Love the outdoors and used to love getting out into my local Sussex countryside with my camera. Now it’s mostly memories.
Kinsey’s 9 years old today! Where have the years gone? We’ve had a few weeks under those 9 years with her in our lives and she’s changed from a tiny, mischievous puppy on the day we brought her home into a loving companion who currently is lying next to me on the settee.

Taking Flight is the history of flight in the animal kingdom. Insects, pterosaurs, birds, bats. Shortlisted – to the bemused astonishment of anyone who ever taught me science – for the Royal Society Science Book Prize.

Reminder - TOILETS AT WOODS MILL - TEMPORARY CLOSURE! Due to essential drain repair work, we need to close the public toilets at Woods Mill from tomorrow, Monday 11 November, for a few days. They should be re-opened by the end of the week, if the work goes according to plan. Thanks everyone

Had minor surgery done at my local hospital this AM. Odd little blemish after dry, cracked lips during hot August.
Anyway, 5 stitches and 2 hours later the local anaesthetic is just starting to wear off. Only cool food and drink for 48 hours. Rest. Sorted.
Free at point of care.
Love the #NHS .

But WHY? It makes no sense. What an incredible opportunity missed. 😢
One of which was Baroness Young of Old Scone - RSPB Chief Executive from 1991 - 1998.

You couldn't make it up.
Last night, Peers voted against Swift bricks: rejecting a simple, proven way to help one of our fastest declining birds recover. ❌

We share @hannahbournetaylor.bsky.social's disappointment & frustration.

The vote came late, but with government refusing to back it, its fate was already sealed.

A view anyone living in Lewes will know very well. Quick snap on my phone. Next time I’ll take my camera, on a sunny evening in Summer, when the castle walls glow in the golden hour.

Have watched Riot Women over the last two evenings.
Wow.
Sally Wainwright has done it again. And what incredible acting.
When’s Season 2 coming out?

PSA for women over 70 in the U.K..
Did you know you can still have a mammogram even though older than the age range for automatic screening invitations?
I’m 75 and have my next appointment in a few days. One quick phone call was all it took.

71 or over? You can still have breast screening if you choose

First ten minutes of The Thursday Murder Club on Netflix. Aargh.
Apartment instead of flat. 🙄
As for leverage…it’s leaverage in England (where the story is set) NOT levverage.
Why do we have to pander to the U.S.? Can’t they cope with the King’s English?

A brief early evening wander near Beachy Head was rather birdless, possibly due to lots of noisy walkers.
Due to having to look at the ground when I walk I missed the best encounter of a female Sparrowhawk nearby.
Still, my close encounter with a Bloody Nosed Beetle made up for the lack of birds.

My dog Kinsey’s water bowl is in the kitchen, about 12 feet from the conservatory back door. It’s open pretty much all the time right now, at least until dusk.
So…what was IN Kinsey’s bowl at bedtime last night?
Yep.
A very large FROG. Thank heavens Kinsey didn’t see it! Would have been carnage.

How to convey the absolute gut-wrenching feeling of loss when you can no longer walk along holding your camera, ready in an instant to capture that fleeting moment in time?Instead you sway, fumble with two sticks, swing the camera up and try not to overbalance but that moment has passed?

@nicolaz.bsky.social Cat sitting away from home so spent all of yesterday listening to Spear magically transporting me to Arthurian times.
I have both Hild ebooks but see that although Menewood is available as an audio book, for some reason Hild isn’t.
Will it become available on Audible? Please?

Made the most of a sunny morning and found the County Flower of Sussex, the beautiful Round-headed Rampion.
It’s also known as The Pride of Sussex, and fittingly it’s often found up on the chalk Downland that, for many, epitomises Sussex, both East and West.
