Love the outdoors and used to love getting out into my local Sussex countryside with my camera. Now it’s mostly memories.
I’ve been noble and been to the gym this morning. Haven’t been for a while (unexpected break in Norfolk, then ill with a bug) so it was hard work. What made it worse is that it feels cold and raw outside, a real shock to the system.
I’d rather be tucked up in a blanket, like #Kinsey was earlier.

Spring is coming. The view from my window is different now the rising sun is further in the East. Our Blackbird is greeting each morning with song, and again in the evening, reaffirming his right to his territory. Our Blue Tits spend hours at the nest box, the precursor to nesting.
Begone, Winter.

I like walls. I love the textures, the different materials used, the patterns and the symmetry.
This wall pleased me immensely.
I know where it is. Do you?

Well. Still getting my head around today’s diagnosis of ADHD, with a side serving of Autism.
It explains a lot. I know 75 is late in life to find out but I feel a certain vindication, whilst also feeling a sense of grief for the person I might have been.
It’s a lot to take in.

I missed #NationalSnowdropDay yesterday, but here’s a glimpse of a woodland scene in Norfolk last week, a carpet of mixed Snowdrops and Winter Aconite in dappled sunlight.

You know that look of utter concentration you get when you've spotted something fantastic on the buffet? Great photo by Phil Winter

Had a day-long drive yesterday. Of necessity there were occasional stops for comfort breaks, but Kinsey spent most of the drive asleep.
It’s a dog’s life.

Sussex has legends of Giants but I never thought one would reveal its face in such a dramatic way

Winter can seem so grey, with little colour to alleviate the gloom. Even in January, though, there can be warmth in the little colour still tenaciously holding on in the woodlands.

There is an Oak tree I love near a main road in East Sussex. It’s on a border between two fields, with no public access nearby. Just recently the hedgerows have been cut, allowing a clearer view of the tree.
Today I captured it, skeletal against a lowering sky, ivy-clad and beautiful.

Making the most of some recent winter light on the South Downs. These three photos show the rolling hills never disappoint when the sun eventually comes out.

Morning, all. Bit nippy outside earlier. Nightclothes aren’t designed for outdoor use. 🥶

Merry Christmas everyone. It’s a clear, cold start to the day. Kinsey decided to spend some of the night on my bed but she was shivering so I covered her with a blanket and she buried herself under it. Only surfaced just now. 🎄

Kinsey’s 9 years old today! Where have the years gone? We’ve had a few weeks under those 9 years with her in our lives and she’s changed from a tiny, mischievous puppy on the day we brought her home into a loving companion who currently is lying next to me on the settee.

Taking Flight is the history of flight in the animal kingdom. Insects, pterosaurs, birds, bats. Shortlisted – to the bemused astonishment of anyone who ever taught me science – for the Royal Society Science Book Prize.

Reminder - TOILETS AT WOODS MILL - TEMPORARY CLOSURE! Due to essential drain repair work, we need to close the public toilets at Woods Mill from tomorrow, Monday 11 November, for a few days. They should be re-opened by the end of the week, if the work goes according to plan. Thanks everyone

Had minor surgery done at my local hospital this AM. Odd little blemish after dry, cracked lips during hot August.
Anyway, 5 stitches and 2 hours later the local anaesthetic is just starting to wear off. Only cool food and drink for 48 hours. Rest. Sorted.
Free at point of care.
Love the #NHS .

But WHY? It makes no sense. What an incredible opportunity missed. 😢
One of which was Baroness Young of Old Scone - RSPB Chief Executive from 1991 - 1998.

You couldn't make it up.
Last night, Peers voted against Swift bricks: rejecting a simple, proven way to help one of our fastest declining birds recover. ❌

We share @hannahbournetaylor.bsky.social's disappointment & frustration.

The vote came late, but with government refusing to back it, its fate was already sealed.

A view anyone living in Lewes will know very well. Quick snap on my phone. Next time I’ll take my camera, on a sunny evening in Summer, when the castle walls glow in the golden hour.
