Many people are refused asylum because the system fails them. To succeed, they often have to go back and undo what went wrong. Making a new claim can require lawyers prepared to unpack the case from its beginning but not many are able to do that and legal aid is not available in many cases

We see lots of people, rightly, condemn how ICE in America for waiting for people at immigration hearings to detain them, but we rarely hear about the fear so many people have of turning up to their reporting sessions in the UK with the Home Office and just being lifted then and there.

I'm a bit of a broken record on this one, but there's a whole section in the asylum paper about replacing the appeals system. Yet the Government can't even publish data on how many appeals they're currently losing/withdrawing. Those stats haven't been published since March 2023.
