The U.S. House of Representatives just voted in favor of a bill that would criminalize health care for trans youth and subject parents and doctors to arrest and even prison time if they administer medically necessary care, such as puberty blockers, hormone therapy, or surgery, to a person under 18.

The ACM Digital Library, where a LOT of computing-related research is published (I'd say at least 75% of my own publications), is now not only providing (without consent of the authors and without opt-in by readers) AI-generated summaries of papers, but they appear as the *default* over abstracts.

1/ At bargaining yesterday, @propublica.org management said that they should have 100% discretion to replace workers with AI and would not commit to labeling future AI-generated content.

In a recent bargaining session with our union, the Harvard CFO very solemnly informed us that both teaching and research were “money losing” ventures at the University. As if the whole point of a university isn’t converting money into knowledge! The financial reckoning of value is so, so toxic.
