i finished the book and What A Dude. absolute mad lad. lost his foot in an incident exploring the ice cap of greenland where he extricated himself from ice with a shiv made from his own feces. sheltered refugees from the nazis, was part of the danish resistance, and hung out in 1930s hollywood.
ive been reading books about arctic exploration / ice disasters / the heroic age of arctic exploration to deal with All This and may I recommend Wanderlust, by Reid Mitenbuler, a beautifully written, often funny, and carefully researched biography of Peter Freuchen, the Danish explorer in this photo
