Save British Farming lead, Liz Webster, explains some chilling facts about food safety after the UKGOV failed to get a SPS deal in the recent EU/UK "reset" summit.

(SPS is related to the quality & standards of Agricultural/food produce in the EU)
🧵✅ Recent regulatory changes open the door to hormone-treated beef and chlorinated chicken.

Even if ministers deny it publicly, here’s how it works:

⚖️ 1. Post-Brexit UK regulation is no longer tied to EU food safety standards (SPS rules)

The government has published no evidence to suggest that cutting disability benefits will get people back to work.

The evidence it has published found that these cuts would plunge hundreds of thousands of people into poverty.

Some blatantly misrepresent what is happening, but more often they simply do not report activity, leaving people with a sense that the government is doing nothing."

Rishi Sunak who was also Chancellor literally made his fortune in the financial crash at everyone's expense 🤷‍♂️

Inflating small indiscretions beyond all measure of proportion, that's toxic

This is a VERY important reference regarding misinformation as political strategy by the populist right.

I’d strongly advise reading the open access paper.
Misinformation isn't random - it's strategic. 🧵

In the first cross-national comparative study, we examine 32M tweets from politicians.

We find that misinformation is not a general condition: it is driven by populist radical right parties.

2011-2023: 804 out of 816 homes closed by regulator were for-profit homes.

30%-40% of public money vanishes in profits.
