I was debating whether to say this or not, but due to the Online (false) Safety Act, I'm unable to receive any msgs on some social platforms, as for my own safety & security, I refuse to submit any sensitive personal information to services that can't guarantee the security of what I send them!

I cannot express this enough: If and when the tide turns away from fascism, you cannot mistake a ceasefire for peace. They never, ever want peace. You must persecute those responsible to the ends of the earth. You must make future generations fear a repeat of their fate.

Hmmm...
I’m shocked having someone write your essay doesn’t make you smarter
New research from MIT found that those who used ChatGPT can’t remember any of the content of their essays.

Key takeaway: the product doesn’t suffer, but the process does. And when it comes to essays, the process *is* how they learn.

Just to remind you that the Allies deliberately erased black soldiers from the visible liberation of Paris:

The history that white people celebrate is manufactured, is based on the erasure of anyone not white.

It's funny... over the last few weeks or so, I've somehow managed to come up with a cohesive music "multiverse" with low effort... I may not be able to create music yet, but equally, my game design sensibilities helped lots to develop concepts related to narratives & stories, which impress even me!

I guess I won't be using SoundCloud to host any of my (eventual) serious music now... My personal account does have some Wub Machine remixes, but I was just playing around with it back then, to see what it could do to songs I know, in order to compare it to the originals!
NEW: The music distribution platform SoundCloud updated its terms of service to allow it to use artists' uploaded music to train AI.

The change quietly went into effect last year. It looks like a lot of SoundCloud users were caught off guard.

This is grim. I’m pretty sure this swan in Hyde Park is nesting, and it’s surrounded by plastic waste that’s washing up from the Serpentine. It’s so representative of our relationship with the natural world. It’s shameful.

So, most of my Birdsite accounts are now all locked down, in order to protect my handles being hijacked by bad actors... I need to still find anyone who is on the 2 platforms I'll be keeping active on, Bluesky and Mastodon, but it'll take time to get things sorted there!

I've yet to see it myself, but I should probably rectify that at some point!
Several thoughts:

(1) Fascinating to see a movie this unapologetically topical and propagandistic (laudatory).

(2) It is, unsurprisingly, extremely good.

(3) Very funny how many lines of dialogue I already knew just from pop culture, including several I didn't know were from this movie.
gonna see what all the fuss is about

But here’s Fedica’s CEO saying it’s fine to use! I’m gonna try it out Monday

My co-worker spent hours trying to track down a book that a patron had asked about, going through all our interlibrary loan resources. Nothing.

Turns out the patron had asked ChatGPT for book recs and it made up some titles and summaries. The book did not exist.
Every time someone says they used chatgpt to find some info, they're actually telling you that they have never been punched hard in the face.

I met Giger once in LA. He shook my hand and as I said, “It’s nice to meet you mister…” he cut me off with a scowl and said “Geeger. It’s pronounced Geeger.” He was so fed up with LA that he spent all evening doing that. “Geeger. It’s pronounced Geeger.”

According to the latest CDC COVID-19 wastewater data, we are currently in the second-biggest surge of the pandemic.

It will peak in the next week, with ~2 million infections per day. During this surge, ~100 million people total (~1 in 3 people in the US) will likely get COVID.
