A case of myopia that no optician is going to be able to remedy. 😩

(Edited as I was clearly irritated and not reading the typo!)
OBR reckons pay per mile for EVs "is likely to reduce demand for electric cars as it increases their lifetime cost". Expecting 440k fewer sales through to 2030 compared to previous forecast, offset by a 130k increase in sales from more funding for the government's grant scheme'.

When can you declare an emergency over?

The 5p “emergency” petrol tax cut was introduced in March 2022, to offset a spike in prices

They are now about 30p down on that month, & about 50p down on the absolute peak

Given carbon budgets there are no credible options*; but of the two fantasy options picking the one where you mess around with the busiest stretch of road in the UK is top level ministerial work 😩

(*The Dept for Transport lost the memo about climate change some years ago & has yet to find it)
'Transport secretary Heidi Alexander rejected a rival proposal from Arora Group, saying Heathrow’s own plans were "the most credible and deliverable option"'

Literally the opposite; as if putting a 12 lane motorway into a tunnel or a tight S bend is easier than building a shorter runway instead

I think it was superfluous to add to the story he was British; when after nearly 21 hours of swimming and covering a distance of 40 miles (in becoming the first person to swim around the island of Lantau) he wanted his first meal to be "Cheesy beans on toast."

Yet to be convinced on LAES esp at 50/300MWh -v- BESS. Though the stability island 1.6 GVAs/100MVAr due in phase 1/'26 will always be useful.

The Hunterston project 300/3.2GWh 3.8 GVAs/300MVAr surely a better guide as how relevant it will be.

Tbf to the UK Gov's Nuclear Regulatory Taskforce report I think the 'lead regulator' argument is good (& should apply outside nuclear) I'm generally sympathetic to the JR/Aarhus arguments as well.

But some points are a bit 😩. Eg the discussion about emissions

There’s some very bad news hidden in the Ofgem price cap for January announced yesterday: the electricity to gas price ratio has jumped to 4.67, its highest level since before the energy crisis.

This is a big barrier to households adopting heat pumps in Britain, and threatens our climate goals

🤦 The tortured logic of knowing you have to get off O&G but being unwilling to stand up to O&G and its vested interests.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said today that the fight against climate change was not against the fuels that cause it — only the pollution they emit.
Von der Leyen says EU is not fighting fossil fuels, only emissions
The comment could undermine European countries’ push at COP30 to move away from coal, oil and gas.

Sizewell C is responsible for a quarter of the rise in the unit price of electricity from 1 January.

Meanwhile the unit price of gas has *fallen*.

The opposite of what we want!

From 1 Jan ⚡ goes up just over 1p; 0.35p of that is the new nuclear levy. ⚡ will be 27.7p per kWh, up from 26.4p.

Doubt I'm alone in seeing a strong bywash on some canals & thinking that really should be tapped

The Canal & River Trust does have some weir projects with potential for more. Always going to be difficult for a cash strapped organisation. More so individual canals

Shame about the aesthetics
Probably one of the most interesting ideas with climate change and renewable energy, how can we harness that power on our canal network? The The Cotswold Canals Trust do just that
