🧵💉Should pregnant people get COVID-19 vaccine? 🤰

TL;DR: YES.

Pregnant people, especially those with certain conditions are at increased risk of severe COVID, miscarriage, and pre-term labor. Babies < 6mo also have increased risk of severe COVID. Vaccination protects mom and baby

In the US, 300 people a week are dying of Covid.

1200 a month. 15,600 a year.

They’ve restricted COVID testing & reporting… so it’s safe to say those numbers are an undercount (and they don’t include the thousands being disabled)

Do they urge mask use? Clean air? No. They restrict vaccines:
Why are more than 300 people in the US still dying from COVID every week?
Last month, an average of about 350 people died each week from COVID, according to data from the CDC. With available vaccines and treatments, why are people still dying?

People rightfully don’t trust politicians because they dangle positive change like a carrot that you only get after Election Day… maybe.

We don’t need a liberal Joe Rogan. We need our leaders to do good things at every possible juncture. That’s where our resources should go.

So ok, here’s the deal. We’ve been skating on the fact that we had a massive summer wave last year, one of the biggest we’ve *ever* had. Since then, no new strain really took over, so people who got sick last year have been coasting on limited immunity to that strain.

That’s about to change.
“Experts have been closely watching the variant, which is now dominant in China and is on the rise in parts of Asia. Hong Kong authorities say that rates of COVID-19 in the city have climbed to the worst levels they have seen in at least a year…”

Dude WHY
I guess this is the next part of that slippery slope when you pretend like a dangerous virus is a cold and an ongoing pandemic’s in the past. Denial has a cost.

It’ll be something to see how this summer’s temperatures impact areas most affected by the year’s tornadoes now that so much tree cover has been lost. These are big, old trees coming down.
Driving back from my daughter's high-school graduation through the pitch-black newly treeless streets of St Louis, destroyed by the tornado. Too many emotions for one night.

In the days leading up to the tornado that has killed 5 in St. Louis many areas around the city/county had siren tests. Yet when the tornado was sweeping through the area they didn’t go off at all??

There’s no rationale for this ignorance any more. There are thousands of credible studies. There are thousands of online advocates trying to hand-feed people basic information on transmission and risk. There are thousands of news articles. If you still don’t get it, you just don’t want to.
Not understanding why people are still masking when COVID is still very much killing people and the government is disincentivizing and moving to restrict and take away vaccines is… not very smart

You hear excuse a lot from people who KNOW that they should be masking during the ongoing pandemic but “no one else is doing it!”. Weak ass argument when you can directly be responsible for someone’s death or disability bc you “didn’t know” you were asymptomatic
you even see this from people who are theoretically on your side. "it's not that /i/ don't care, it's just that your /average person/ doesn't." and the "average person" is always a bigoted white straight cis man who makes a moderate income. white men IN GENERAL are only 31% of the US, btw
"The left went too far" in contemporary U.S. politics is almost always a lie and a very convenient way to rationalize moral failure. For example, "MeToo went too far" replaces "I do not care about sexual violence or its victims and I don't want to have to even feel bad about that"

Okay it's not quite afternoon yet but I'm going to start the big thread of folks in Gaza who need help. The best thing you can do for anyone on here, aside from giving money, is take time out of your day a few times a week to share the same family. People respond to that. Pick someone and help.

Fascists want us divided, uninformed and sick. A sick, apathetic population won’t put up much of a fight.

Protect your health. Read local independent journalists. Support libraries, community fridges & food banks. Give to mutual aid. Wear a mask.

If you’re in Illinois or travel there, voice your support!
Mask bans already exist in certain States and counties.

Vance spearheaded a federal ban on mask mandates.

Organizing to codify the right to wear medical masks and respirators is (sadly) needed.

Masking is community care and resistance.

Illinois attempting to codify right to mask into law:
HB3853: The Protective Medical Equipment Freedom Act

Hey it’s long covid awareness day! I’ve had long covid since one mild infection in 2022, and here’s what to be aware of:

It sucks, and there is no cure.

I’ve been on bed rest for a week and had to take time off work because I’m in a crash. Under no circumstances should you keep trying to get this.
