the way that ai is being advertised now is that everyone has to pretend to be incompetent and incredibly incapable and useless at everything

The only surefire way to stop oligarchs buying up the things we love is to drop those things the moment oligarchs buy them & that requires changing habits and massive self-discipline.
It means going to alternatives that might not be quite as good or convenient.
It’s really hard. But there it is.

my great-grandparents arrived in the UK in the 1890s with nothing.
they sold pickles from the front room window, took in laundry, worked as tailors.
their children were nurses, teachers, salesmen.
their grandchildren were professors, designers, opticians, doctors, magistrates, entrepreneurs.
This is so disgusting.

BBC describing Zarah Sultana as "Far-Left."

But the BBC do not use the term "Far-Right" for Nigel Farage.

Subtle and clever form of manipulation.

I make a small monthly donation to Wikipedia. If you can afford it, l would encourage you to do the same.
I take Wikipedia for granted. Reading this Jimmy Wales interview reminded me in our Fantasyland age what a remarkable and important creation it is. True pillar of civilization. Runs on only $200 million a year. Requires our support. So I’m finally donating. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/18/m...

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Finished Christopher Fowler’s ‘Bryant & May: England’s Finest’ short story collection. A great selection of short mystery / crime stories. Also a good essay by Chris with some background to the series - his absence feeling especially poignant as I approach the end of the series. #booksky
