I’m a trans man. If my football team followed the EHRC guidance for our match today, I would have had to change in a separate room and use a separate toilet.

Ultimately, I imagine the EHRC would like to ban me from playing on the same team as cis men.

We say no. Trans rights are human rights 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️

I received a heartbreaking email today: A paper in a special issue I’m editing is being retracted because one of its authors is afraid of losing their job and their legal status in the U.S. if they publish a scientific study on evolution. Yes, on evolution, nature's engine of diversity.

I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky
Just received an email saying that it's not advisable to include the following words in future applications for research funding to the US DOT. Here we are.

There is some chaos again in academic publishing, so a quick reminder that some societies manage their own journals in house & offer OA options, discounts, read & publish deals etc. Any "profits" go back into the Society to support charitable activities incl. education & funding #AcademicSky

The most iconic figure in the environmental sciences is the Keeling Curve, the CO₂ record from Mauna Loa, Hawaii.

@noaa.gov had a wonderful site where you could visualize and download these data, and now it's just gone. These data belong to us and we should not let this happen!

Is this allowed?
For context, I was asked if I could review a promotion application at another UK Uni.

"If I do not receive a response to this email by Wednesday 8th May 2024 I will assume you are happy to provide a reference and I will send the associated paperwork to you after this date.'
