Le budget fédéral 2025 montre que l’«austérité» s’applique aux efforts visant à protéger les gens et la planète, mais qu’il y aura toujours de l’argent pour les dépenses militaires et les industries polluantes.

Canada's 2025 budget:

✅ invests in housing and infrastructure and promises to strengthen some climate regulations

😡 creates new LNG subsidies and doubles down on oil-and-gas handouts

🤡 completely ghosts nature funding.

Not the clear vision an "investment budget" demands.

🧵A thread of my quick take-aways from today’s federal budget and #climate competitiveness strategy on #renewables:

Good:
Long-overdue Clean Electricity ITCs

Bad:
$$ for fossil fuels, greenwashing
Devastating cuts across gov
Only vagueness, not bold moves on renewables

#cdnpoli #energysky

This budget is sure to be a doozy, with lots of bad, and hopefully some good.

I'll be looking out for big investments in an east-west grid based on #renewables, including:
🗼$20B for transmission and grid upgrades
🏡$6.5B for efficiency
🤝$5B for Indigenous-led projects
👷‍♀️key labour supports

Budget 2025 shows that ‘austerity’ applies to efforts to protect people and the planet—but that more money can always be found for military spending and polluting industries.

In Canada, each year air pollution causes:
- 15,300 premature deaths
- $120 Billion per year in economic losses

More than 41 Canadians die every single day from the health impacts of burring #fossilfuels, even before we start counting #climate and #wildfire impacts.

41.
Every day.

♨️ heat-related deaths up 63% since the 1990s
