This point needs to be elevated every day as we discuss the value of foreign aid! I wrote a blog post related to this and the critical contributions that H.I.V. patients make to ending the epidemic:

They recovered over 180 bullet shells at the CDC. Debris from shattered glass is still being cleaned up. I am completely stunned at how quickly the news cycle has moved on. This was an act of terrorism targeting public health experts, and the response seems to be a collective shrug.

I keep seeing this and other news stories about lenacapavir going viral, so, respectfully...
The approval of lenacapavir PrEP, standing alone, absolutely will NOT bring the HIV epidemic to an end. We have highly effective HIV preventive meds for over a decade now, and yet the epidemic continues.
If you were alive in the 1980s, this is among the most wonderful & truly incredible things you have ever witnessed in your lifetime.

❓ We often think more education = better health. But is that true for all health outcomes, in all settings? Maybe not…context matters!

✅ What does matter for HIV care is social support and literacy and numeracy skills--gained through schooling or elsewhere.

Kennedy provides a bunch of references for his claim that thimerosal in vaccines (barely used anymore) is harmful.

If a high-school student submitted this as their reference list, they would fail.

I will do what Kennedy didn’t - actually look at them. 🧵

New publication! The education of a community shapes how people gain sexual and reproductive health (SRH) knowledge, and this differs for men and women in Uganda.

We're tired of the false information and wrote this letter to the NIH director Jay Bhattacharya. FACT: clinical trials have been halted. With real ethical impacts. Is this what Americans want to be known for? Let's see what the director says.

I know many academic journal editors here - who else is getting these letters?
The Trump regime is now using US Attorneys to intimidate academic journals by sending them letters demanding they explain how they ensure ‘viewpoint diversity.’ Journal editors should be public about this and coordinate to refuse to comply with these fascist tactics.

Speaking as an HIV clinician who knows how far we have come in treating and preventing HIV and how much more work we still have left to do, gutting domestic HIV prevention in the US will be the biggest blow to fighting HIV in recent memory and will erase crucial gains.

This is a wildly dangerous sign — the idea that there are only five SCOTUS votes for paying congressionally mandated invoices for work *already* done!? This should be as basic a test of Article I as you can get. And that does not bode well for decisions to come.
BREAKING: On a 5-4 order, SCOTUS denies DOJ’s motion to vacate Judge Ali’s State/USAID order, but notes that his prior deadline passed, so Ali is going to have to go back to the drawing board and “clarify” what the gov’t needs to do, “with due regard for the feasibility of any compliance timelines.”
