So thankful for writer friends who put up with my constant crises about my process and what I hate about it today.

David Lynch died.

Can't bring myself to do more than skim the Gaiman article. I think the thing that guts me the most is that this kind of shit is happening all the time and people get away with it *all the time*.

Goddamn, trying to write with kids home on the school holidays is *hard*. I am tempted not to even try, but I am even more loathe to lose all of those weeks of the year.

There are no words for how disappointed I am with how meh Dune: Prophecy is. Do not care about a single character, so many good actors wasted.

Starting to plan my 2025 writing year. Tentatively hopeful for having more time and space to finish things and get back to publishing again. Quietly excited

I am in that void where I've finished* a project and feel like I might never write again and I hate it.

*Where finished = an intended novella length sequel to Icefall that has become a 165k behemoth that I think might become two books of a trilogy. Sigh.

I don't know why I keep on trying to outline books before I write them. It never works.

I tell my students that success doesn't happen because of what you don't do wrong. It happens because of what you do right.
I think a lot of unforced errors in writing advice come from subtractive approaches. Get rid of what’s “bad” then we have something good, right?

Good writing doesn’t come from extracting mistakes but from having interesting things. A diamond gets cut into an amazing gem. A turd can be polished but…

100% this.
My advice--don't worry too much about being "original." Worry about whether the thing you're doing is interesting and fun to you. There will always be someone to say your work isn't sufficiently new. They are obviously not your audience. 5/5

My favourite thing today: one of the ways that my 5yo's teacher is getting her students to engage with reading is to have them yell any word with exclamation marks. The kids are having so much fun. Progress from my childhood of rote learning and Dick and Dora books

In the weird between place where I have one project shoved in a drawer to give me some space before I tackle the next draft, and am just beginning to worldbuild something new. It feels like I'm not working much, but my brain is mush by the end of the day.
