Influential study on glyphosate safety retracted 25 years after publication
A 2000 study that concluded the well-known herbicide glyphosate was safe, widely cited since then, has just been officially disavowed by the journal that published it. The scientists are suspected of having signed a text actually prepared by Monsanto.

Don’t you just love it when authors misunderstand the source they are citing. A misunderstanding that wouldn’t happen if they weren’t oblivious to the history of their own field. Let alone the sentence being completely put of place. A reviewer should have questioned it. But what do I know.

Watched a panel discussion with Nick Lane at @royalsoced.bsky.social today. Got the chance to meet him after! But instead of telling him how cool it is to meet someone my high school biology teacher (in Denmark) recommended I read ten years ago, I panicked and asked a silly science question…

Thesis is writing is fun. I enjoy it. Someone please remind me of this in a couple of weeks when I’m spiralling.

Having a “I totally agree with this but I’m too young to risk not using the system for career progression” kinda moment.

On a less serious level: That’s super funny 😂
Excellent post by the creator of the hoax FormatMyPaper.com.

Okay, I’m gonna start posting now:
Maybe I should’ve written a chapter at the end of each year. My hypothetical future student, take notice, I will ask you to do this.

I should probably start posting more I suppose. About science I guess.

Never ever did we think we'd sympathize with the Iranian government. We've been actively involved in trying to topple that regime for close to two decades. But, here we are with criminals and fascists waging war against them, making their responses very arguably legally justified. F*ck this sh*t!

The journey from Edinburgh to St Andrews is just over an hour. A journey I've done plenty of times. This one is different though: I'm giving my first invited talk. 2025 is looking pretty decent so far 😄

Vice Chancellor says we need to find £140m and apparently it's been an ongoing issue needing staff cuts. Meanwhile building the EFI cost £120m. Clearly the university hasn't been managed very well 👀. Maybe it's time to cut the top, not the foundation.

I didn't think the situation in the U.S. would be this dire. It's somehow a lot worse than I thought it'd end up being before the inauguration... Genuinely scared on behalf of everyone who lives there, and worried that the EU will normalise it by not standing up to them.

Regardless of disaggreing with colleagues, uncritically accepting accusations from a foreign power is inappropriate. To then question the integrity of said colleagues solely bc of background is a whole other level. Badenoch is the perfect summary of everything that's wrong with politics.

Gave my first conference talk at this week #Microbio25. I was positively surprised with the interest it garnered, and the friendly discussions during the Q&A and the days that followed. Looking forward to more meetings like this.

After months of collective punishment and the death of over 40,000 in Gaza, any suggestion Palestinians should be removed from their home is unacceptable and dangerous.

There must be no ethnic cleansing.

Only a proper two state solution will bring lasting peace.
