In fact, we need people not directly at risk to speak up loudly. If you are trans, it doesn’t have to be YOU putting your face out there for trans rights all day. It’s everyone else’s job to stand up and fight.

If you’re a US citizen, you need to fight for vulnerable immigrant friends and coworkers

You also don’t need to assume your personal identity needs to be part of your work. For example maybe you’re scared shitless about your mom’s immigration status, but you’re a labor organizer.

It’s ok to focus on labor, and you don’t have to be the immigration poster child while you’re doing that

There are a lot of bad things happening all at once, and it’s overwhelming to think about how to meet moments like this.

Jean says to focus on 1 or 2 things that you care about, understand fairly well, and are either local or involve a topic where you’re likely to have influence and find community

In the interest of continuing to live, I am trying to have interests; three pages into this book and I’m already hooked. Book and Dagger: How scholars and librarians became the unlikely spies of World War II, by Elyse Graham. Go place a hold.

having a pet is so fucking stupid. you're just pre-purchasing yourself the worst pain you'll ever feel in your life and we just keep doing it, like idiots, because the only thing worse than losing them is never having them at all

They’re demanding (among other things) that missing trans children be deadnamed or they lose all fed funding, and it makes it hard to fucking find someone when they don’t use that name anymore.

If Fetterman shows up at the Eagles victory parade I call upon all Philadelphians to descend upon him Lilliput style and secure him to the ground then run in and out of his ears and throw glitter around inside his giant head
If the Eagles win the superbowl and this massive CUNT shows up at the parade the city of Philadelphia will boo him across the river to Jersey.

Anything they want, hide it or mislabel it. Anything they plug in, unplug it. Remove light bulbs. Move cubicles around so they hide some of the doors and when they leave the room move them again so they hide different doors. Play really loud music. Think like a cat and sabo tabby yourself a mess

I sincerely don’t know why people aren’t physically stopping those dorks. Move shit. Lock doors. Lose the keys. Everyone switch seats. Turn off all the lights. Switch the signs on the elevator lobby. Make the settings all silly. Use a different language. Wear costumes. Fill rooms with balloons

not sure why some of the responses to this are so rancid…she’s right! it’s not about forgiving MAGA reps or billionaires, it’s an acknowledgment that our society is deeply fractured & if we can find ways to restore it with our neighbors who are otherwise not frothing at the mouth we should take it
friendly reminder that the best case scenario over the coming years is that a lot of people say "I supported Trump but this isn't what I wanted at all" and when they do that it's gonna be really, really important that we say "welcome in," not "fuck you, we told you so"

It’s funny that midlife crises were once remarkable enough to be a thing people noticed. Like oh “he doesn’t know what he wants out of life and he’s not sure how to navigate this world anymore so he’s buying himself stuff he doesn’t really need” that’s just Tuesday now

It feels like a good time to re-read these books, which brought me comfort as a weird nerdy fourth grader anxious about the world.

We woke up to a cold day in what is, by all accounts, still hell. Wind chill below zero, but the sun is shining, and the little birds came to our feeder, confident in finding support where they are loved. Plants wait beneath the snow to bloom again. As Tom Waits said, you can never hold back spring.
