The rainy day fund is $8.165 billion as of June 2, 2025 (per MA Comptroller).
We get $240 million monthly from the federal government to fund SNAP.
Covering SNAP for one month would cost 3% of the rainy day fund. Seems like a good deal to me.

On the one hand, I understand why Massachusetts politicians are hesitant to dip into the rainy day fund to cover SNAP, because we have many crises ahead. On the other hand, it's hard to think of something more rainy than kids going hungry. It's the right thing to do, and I think it's good politics.
