I just learned this dude quit his job as a professor to (presumably) make more money writing slop like this and my question is, how do I get a similar offer?
A racist TV show made with the assistance of Sora has attracted millions of viewers. Tyler Austin Harper argues that it could be “the harbinger of a new entertainment landscape where extremist AI shows will jockey for our attention with more anodyne ones”:
The Will Stancil Show Could Be the Future
A racist TV series making fun of a minor social-media celebrity has attracted millions of viewers—and demonstrates the alarming possibilities of AI.

So cops are putting sensitive information into MFing ChatGPT? Sounds like something you should serve prison time for.
U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis wrote the footnote in a 223-page opinion issued last week, noting that the practice of using ChatGPT to write use-of-force reports undermines agents’ credibility and “may explain the inaccuracy of these reports.”

Has anyone written a think-piece in some national outlet explaining that the obvious way to end LLM usage in universities is to get rid of anonymous student evaluations?

I got involved with the YIMBY movement in small part because I was concerned about housing affordability in California.

But mostly it was because I, Adolf Hitler, wanted to meet other people like myself (Adolf Hitler.)
sometimes you just need to take a step back and marvel at the absurdity that is the left-NIMBY mindset

these are not normal, rational people. they have descended into a bespoke form of madness

The worst part about men like this is that they are almost exclusively performing their masculinity to an exhausted woman and embarrassed children.
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

I'm not going to begrudge anyone doing what they think is right for them, but the rot that's infected the GOP is also gaining traction across Europe. I've thought about it and I think I'm better off in the fight alongside other Americans than off somewhere as a lonely foreigner.
When Is It Time to Flee?
Trans people and their families are facing hard questions and choices as threats to their safety and rights proliferate.

If everyone in Southern California who is planning to drive to San Diego could please refrain from doing so until after lunch time, I would greatly appreciate it.

If I owned property in Texas, I would be very worried right now. Also, if I were a local government, I'd be worried about my revenue in the coming years.
Keys & Mulder build dataset to study homeowners insurance using over 74 million premiums from 2014–2024 inferred from mortgage escrow payments. Premium increases are capitalized into home values, reducing home price growth by over $40,000 in the most exposed zip codes. www.nber.org/papers/w32579

People who voted for Trump more than once are probably gone for good and the best you can hope for is making them an example to deter others.
Everyone is doing these "how to talk to your MAGA relatives at Thanksgiving" posts and I just wanna say all you actually need to think about is how to insult, embarrass, and generally zing those relatives within earshot of younger relatives who don't have a political identity yet

This will definitely get them sued by the Attorney General, but will it also make them subject the Builder's Remedy? There's a compliant Housing Element, but also an initiative stating they have no intention of following it.
Newport Beach may dump state mandate as residents prep to vote on plan for far fewer housing units
Critics say the current state-approved housing plan will make the city overcrowded.

Pretty interesting and telling that the ICE agent who points his rifle at the person immediately gets dragged off by two unmasked officers from some unnamed agency like they were worried about this untrained idiot in their midst.

Someone with lots of money for a really specific survey should look at Trump support in those towns right now and after they've realized they've touched the stove.
National parks have SO MANY people from other countries (since they get real vacations!)

And they spend a lot of money on hotels, food, souvenirs, etc.

This is unbelievably dumb, it will destroy entire tourist towns

This whole Nuzzi saga is like that scene from Observe and Report where the cop hides in the closet so he can hear Seth Rogen be told that he failed the psych exam, but then he leaves in the middle and says "I thought this would be really funny, but it's actually just kinda sad."
Just opened my copy of status and saw "Ryan Lizza will publish his latest entry into his ongoing Olivia Nuzzi series in the next 24 hours or so, Lachlan Cartwright reported in his newsletter Breaker."

Cannot wait for LA28 when we can show the world what really makes America great: Vaporware and unfinished, over-budget infrastructure.
Interesting to contrast this well-reported piece that accurately describes the situation (“unproven”) with the previous story on Archer that was basically a LA28 press release

Learning a lot about the present state of our country by watching Ken Burns' new documentary.

For instance, I didn't know the Founders' main objection to King George's rule was that he did not have a slim majority in the House of Commons that okayed his absolute authority.

Crucially, by upholding their constitution and the rule of law, Brazil discovered that support for Bolsonaro evaporated save for a dwindling minority of die-hards and dead-enders. Because Brazilians see Bolsonaro as a criminal and a loser, they've largely moved on from him.

@cselmendorf.bsky.social told me about this paper last week and I think it's a paper that every developer should force their architects to read.
NEW PAPER w/ @cselmendorf.bsky.social & @jkalla.bsky.social:

An under-appreciated reason why voters oppose dense new housing, especially in less-dense neighborhoods: they think it looks ugly and want to prevent that, even in other neighborhoods.

Some of what we think is NIMBYism might not be!

The alternative to an SRO isn't a larger apartment; the alternative is a tent.
Relegalize SROs. Relegalize single stair buildings to enable larger, family sized homes. Legalize townhomes everywhere. Legalize ADUs everywhere. Legalize apartment buildings in more places. Yes to all the homes.

Googling what a "shoefly" is...
The problem is if you want to do transit advocacy in the USA you do really need to know what a shoefly is, and weird shit about fire safety, and a million other things.
I'm guessing 10% of the people in this room were looking for this level of detail. A phrase comes to mind (build the damn trains, I don't need to know what a shoofly is.)
