It was never about states' rights. They didn't just want the right in Texas to refuse the expansion of Medicaid under the ACA.

Now that they have power, they want to cut the Medicaid expansion for EVERYONE! Just like abortion rights. Just like LGBTQ+ rights. Just like voting rights.

A ‘historic battle’: Mass pols protest Medicaid cuts in ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ | John L. Micek
The Republican-authored bill will cost the state's health care system $1.75 billion and take away health care for 250,000 people, the Healey administration said.

what i like about this is that politico doesn’t ask whether trump is actually doing the job of president. the frequency with which trump is on tv suggests not!
The Trump regime has gutted the govt; assaulted the constitution; apprehended immigrants off streets w/o due process sending them to foreign gulags; blown up alliances as economy hurtles towards uncertainty.

Yet here is POLITICO fawning over his media appearances while throwing shade at Biden.

1/4 Tucked into the Republicans’ bad budget bill is a major change that could quietly destabilize Medicaid in Ohio and across the country. They’re targeting provider taxes—a key funding tool states use to support Medicaid and bring in essential federal dollars.

Republicans target a tax that keeps state Medicaid programs running • Ohio Capital Journal
The tax and spending bill U.S. House Republicans approved last week would cap or freeze the taxes states levy on medical providers, potentially leaving states with major holes in their Medicaid budget...

Republicans couldn't pass their own "big, beautiful bill" out of the House Budget Committee.

Why? Because it doesn't cut spending enough.

The cruel and devastating cuts to programs that millions of people rely on apparently need to be even MORE cruel and devastating.

-NOAA forecasting & FEMA disaster response
-USDA food safety

This will result in needless suffering — all to pave the way for billionaire tax cuts.

he and his mini-me, Elon Musk, won’t stop making outlandish claims about the program and appear to be setting the table for cuts that they will try to call something other than “cuts.”
