I love utilizing local news stations for my research work, but Lynchburg news is getting less professional by the day.

Granted, part of utilizing it is to show their inherent bias towards LibertyU over other schools... But c'mon, misspelling Virginia five times? 🤦‍♀️

So since I'm annoyed let me say a few things today.Some folks have been writing about Christian Nationalism and apocalyptic right wing movements for YEARS here in the US. YEARS. Do we get to have a platform in major mags and newspapers... rarely.

I'm currently traveling for a Historic Preservation Conference, so naturally I had to check out some of the local bookstores.

Got some books off my academic wishlist, and grabbed a couple of childhood books for nostalgia's sake

For those considering letting up on Disney/ABC on account of Kimmel coming back, that energy can and should be turned full force toward Nexstar and Sinclair. They weren’t cowed into this, they did it gleefully.

Mind you, Sinclair has forced these news crews to deal with onslaught harassment due to their actions and are now forcing them to magically produce around 28 minutes of local programming. This means reporters magically have to come up with more stories in an already understaffed station.

VT just closed its religious studies department.

I would read an annotated version of today's proceedings with annotations done by all of the scholars of religion who couldn't get jobs in the past few decades because it wasn't relevant.

The local station for Lynchburg VA, WSET 13, is Sinclair.

The unfortunate irony is that most of what they've run about the situation wasn't a Sinclair must-run, they just have employees that staunchly share in their corporations beliefs.

(And yes, most employees are grads of LibertyU.)
