‘Death remains my intimate shadow partner. It has been with me since birth, always hovering close by. I understand one day we will finally waltz together into the ether. I hope when that time comes, I die with the satisfaction of a life well-lived, unapologetic, joyful, & full of love.’

Alice Wong was one of the most effective people challenging the Whiteness of disability communities and its many flaws, but who believed fiercely in us as a community, in disabled people as oracles.

Alice brought so much to so many of us, it’s hard to measure the kind of gratitude I have for that.

I will say something more later about the depths of @sfdirewolf.bsky.social’s love and friendship and knowledge and courage and bad assery. Alice Wong was a disabled Warrior Oracle and I am so blessed to know her.

But for now all I got is Fuck 2025.
Our beloved Alice Wong has joined the ancestors. It was one of the great honors of my life to call Alice my friend, co-author & co-conspirator. She was a true genius, a force of nature the likes of which the world has never seen before. I love you, Alice, and am equal parts grateful and devastated

UnitedHealth has overcharged some cancer patients for medicine by over 1,000%.

An FTC report finds that OptumRx, United Health's pharmacy benefit manager, has made billions by charging patients a huge markup for life-saving drugs.

“In order to shoot off one email per week for a year, ChatGPT would use up 27 liters of water, or about one-and-a-half jugs… that means if one in 10 U.S. residents—16 million people—asked ChatGPT to write an email a week, it’d cost more than 435 million liters of water.”
AI doesn’t just require tons of electric power. It also guzzles enormous sums of water.

we all need to hear this
I don't know who needs to know this, but Pro Publica has an online thing that will format a letter to your US health insurance company to demand the records behind a claim denial. (which the insurance is then legally required to provide in most cases)

If you're a Spotify user who is finding the microgenre & geodata of your annual "Wrapped" to be less substantial than usual, there's a reason why.

A year ago, Spotify laid off most of its employees who worked on genre classification, including folks like data alchemist @glennmcdonald.bsky.social.

I tend to avoid Amazon anyway, but I also get annoyed by the wave of "you have to boycott" posts that come out every time a union announces a strike. Do your own research and listen to the workers themselves.

I've read multiple articles about today's Amazon strike and not a single one has mentioned any demands from workers that consumers boycott the company today
