Jellyfish & sea anemones lack brains & yet seem to sleep in ways similar to humans

New findings bolster a theory that sleep evolved before centralized nervous systems to repair DNA damage that builds up in individual nerve cells while animals are awake.

“Neurons are very precious”
Jellyfish sleep like humans — even though they don’t have brains
Studying ancient sea creatures’ snoozing habits could shed light on the origins of sleep.

I'm #intersex. Born with 2 DSDs & ambiguous genitalia. I was treated as a girl by my mother for my first three years until doctors intervened and told her that I was a boy. My parents accepted their authority and agreed to have me surgically 'repaired'.

I've known doctors like this all my life 🧵
I'm convinced this is Streeting's vision for trans healthcare - wind the clock back 45 yrs.
Tho maybe that's too optimistic regarding what he wants, I dunno.

New guidance tells GPs not to support trans people by providing blood tests. This is under Wes Streeting's political control of the NHS. This isn't healthcare, this is putting people at risk.

Attempts to ban “LGBTQ+” books from school libraries are on the increase.

Nb; “LGBTQ+” is Guardian-speak for “mostly trans” but of course the Guardian won’t even use the T-word.

it is interesting how this was totally an elite fabrication. trans rights were on the path to general acceptance on the gay marriage coattails but nearly our entire elite culture including elite liberals decided to run a multi-year op against a tiny minority
yeah. They basically started the anti-trans movement

Evidence, if you need it, that Labour had already decided to make the PB ban permanent before the sham DHSC consultation on the matter.

In response to the question whether to make the ban permanent, a government genuinely seeking advice would have said ‘neither agree nor disagree’, don’t you think?

Hearing "the government can't take away who you are inside!" in response to anti-trans policies us what really made me *hate* "validation" politics.

It's so deeply patronizing, and minimizes our actual problems while painting us as hysterical mental patients one wrong pronoun away from suicide.
When the US began to strip trans people of rights, revert documentation, move trans women to men's prisons, censor research, and move towards healthcare bans, most cis people posted things like "the government can't tell you who you are!"

They think our biggest issue is validation, not actual harm.
