This, THIS!!!
It's the academia parallel to companies that forget they're supposed to make money by selling quality products to consumers, not stock prices to investors.

The "product" of a university isn't the degree.

The graduates are the product. You should want them to be high-quality.
Too many boards and presidents appear to believe that the value and legitimacy of their university resides in the brand when it, in fact, resides in knowledge and judgment, which in turn resides in the faculty and academic staff.

I spent the whole morning sorting out some things that needed sorting, but that had not yet been sorted b/c the web site's chatbot was unable to help me or to connect me with a human. Done now, but OMG it should not be that difficult.

Pediatricians say vaccines do not cause autism. A bear-eating heroin addict who fantasizes about sucking his own semen out of his lovers' orifices says they do. For busy parents, it can be hard to know who to trust.

OMG! Against all odds, I found a book by @cheriepriest.com that I had not read! I am now the proud Kindle “owner” of _Those_Who_Went_Remain_

Starting it immediately.

If you want a very cozy reality show, I highly recommend Great Canal Journeys — we watch on Prime Video. The late Timothy West and Prunella Scales featured in 10 pre-COVID series, aired from 2014-2019, with filming commencing when they had been married 50 years. He passed in 2024 and she in October.

Darn, I meant to change the flag today! I try to remember to fly the St Andrew's cross (the flag of Scotland) on St Andew's Day. Instead, the Dodgers' World Series flag is still out there -- at least it's blue and white.

I ordered a smoked turkey breast for our family "Thanksgiving leftovers buffet." It is HUGE! Fed everyone yesterday using about 1/4 of it. I still have nearly 6.5 lbs. So tonight I'm attempting a pot pie using smoked turkey w/leftover roast veggies & green bean casserole. Fingers crossed!

Tom Stoppard, one of my favorite playwrights, has died at the age of 88. He was the only person I ever asked for an autograph (nudged into it by a co-worker when I was doing theatre in the UK in 1980). "If I wanted to change the world, the last thing I would do is write a play." You changed mine.

Played a trivia game with the family today called Mind the Gap. The questions are divided by age: Boomer, Gen X, Millenial & Gen Z. We made two teams as diverse as possible (we're heavy on Millenials). It was a LOT of fun; music questions in any age and Boomer questions generally were the toughest.

TFW you are reading a book recommendation thread and it goes off on a tangent lauding an author whose books you have never/would never read b/c of who they are as a person. Time to go vacuum the floor.

OMG, the December flavors at Salt & Straw look SO GOOD. We had some disappointments the last couple of months, but these look amazing. Need to make a tasting date with Youngest and plan to go back for faves with the grandbug next time he's here.

If you use Gmail, here's a nifty free app from the Google Workspace Marketplace--it scans emails for AI-generated content. I installed and tested it myself; it's not 100%, but works pretty well. If you're being bombarded by AI scam spams, it's a helpful tool. workspace.google.com/marketplace/...

A really lovely story, perfect for the holiday, in one of my favorite series!
Oh, and if you want an American Thanksgiving themed read, may I recommend A Midnight Feast? It's in KU or only $0.99

I loved this book so much. I read an advance copy earlier this year. Quite a few books ago, so I was happy to dive in and enjoy it again once my pre-ordered copy arrived. It was just what I needed -- funny, quirky, cozy, sexy and affirming of a world where love DOES win. Highly recommended!
SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE is warm, cozy, & out today. I hope you love it! 💗

The story: A cranky baker's erroneous obituary brings the woman who got away back into his life--& now he needs to convince her to stay.
The heat level: steamy!
The baked goods: plentiful!

@buriedbybooks.bsky.social How's your prep for tomorrow going? Did hubs get a lot done? I blanched the beans and made the mushroom sauce this evening. Tomorrow morning I will roast veggies and mix & cook the green bean casserole. I bought the fancy brand of fried onions.

This will surprise no one.

My resolution not to even click on Substack links has really made a different. I spend a lot less time reading things others have quote-posted, and so far I don't feel like I've really missed much. The world is FULL of news and opinions, and many of them are from people who refuse to support Nazis.
