I've been following up the Nobel Prizes by listening to Joel Mokyr's lectures a lot. One of his repeated points is that Europe emerged as a tech powerhouse _because_ it was able to question its ancient elders (Plato) and point out when they're wrong.

2) I'm very tired of people acting like the founding fathers were some kind of inerrant source of wisdom and scripture to be cited forever and ever Amen.
