Say what you like about the UK political system, but when we had a leader who did something like this to the economy, she was gone in no time, removed by her own party

Sunder is right, and the reporting on this has been terrible.
*Trump increased tariffs on almost all countries, bar Russia*

Untrue to report Trump "paused" tariff increases for 90 days on all countries "except China"

By less than threatened for many. BUT no pause+no mitigation on 10% hike for Britain, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Egypt, New Zealand & others

A sign of recovery of Britain’s Conservative Party will be when they stop reflexively attacking lawyers, judges and the idea of legality generally. They’d do better to rediscover their own strong legal tradition embodied by people like Dominic Grieve and Lord Garnier.
One man is standing up for the rule of law in Britain. His reward is to be savagely attacked by right wing think tanks, newspapers & politicians. They understand where the battle against populism is taking place. And they've marshalled their forces accordingly.

To the extent that Trump / Vance have a strategic vision for the US-UK relationship, it is not to strengthen the UK. The vision is to weaken Europe by severing UK from the continent. Trump-Vance true "special relationship" is with Russia. Russia desperately fears UK-EU unity 2/x

Judgment of UK Supreme Court in For Women Scotland v Scottish Ministers, a very important decision on statutory interpretation and the limits of the legal fiction in s9 of the Gender Recognition Act 2004. No change to meaning of “woman” in the Equality Act 2010

For Women Scotland Ltd (Appellant) v The Scottish Ministers (Respondent) - UK Supreme Court
Is a person with a full gender recognition certificate (“GRC”) which recognises that their gender is female, a “woman” for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010 (“EA 2010”)?

What seems to be driving this movement is that guys of all kinds get a thrill out of kicking women.
I find it interesting that there seems to be a plethora of male comedians who are advocating for males with transgender identities in female sport. I assume Oliver is one of them. Is it because they think women's sport is a joke? Ripe for taking the piss out of?
Dear John Oliver. I was approached by Dee Brent with questions ahead of the segment on sport you are reportedly planning to air tomorrow on @lastweektonight1.bsky.social. This is what i had sent for your consideration.

If the UK had still been part of the EU then...

A) The EU tariff would have been 16%-17% not 20% based on Trump's formula

B) The UK would also have been subject to that 16%-17% tariff but crucially our trade would have remained MUCH higher (Brexit has hurt us much more than the tariff difference!)
