The difference in the time it takes a streetcar in Amsterdam vs. Toronto to clear an intersection after servicing a nearside stop.

Grateful for @massdcr.bsky.social converting this signal at Matignon from a pedestrian signal to a full one featuring a blank out sign (that activates before the pedestrian phase !). Much safer intersection now!

Review is in: Aberdeen’s new separated lane is amazing! Love being so close to the trees in the center of the roadway, and the transitions are well designed with minimal waiting.

This is some wicked clever stuff from BTD. Looking forward to seeing these tactics used in the field soon! Seems like such a win for the region. www.boston.gov/departments/...

Had probably closest right hook crash ever at Mass and Pearl this pm. Driver’s blind spot monitor was even lighting up red! Are drivers that uneducated that they have to yield? Thank god I could tell the driver didn’t plan on yielding because I developed a sense for that

Note that Congress is on the verge of killing DC's right-on-red ban, despite clear evidence that it works.
"In DC a pilot (banning right turn on red) at 74 intersections led to a 92% reduction in failure-to-yield incidents and a 97% drop in vehicle conflicts"

Why cities like DC, Raleigh, Ann Arbor, Cambridge & Seattle are rethinking right turn on red @schlthss.bsky.social tooledesign.com/insights/202...

Nice new signal separation installed by @jfh01.bsky.social ‘s team on Mass at Tremont. Felt a lot safer crossing, though that no turn on red sign maybe could use a new location as it’s blocked by the turn signal!

Not sure how I feel about blank out signs being used for signal separation, but maybe it’s okay? The red arrow honestly gets the same compliance as a no turn on red sign in Boston in my experience (despite having no legal meaning).

This is what US DOT Secretary Duffy wants to happen everywhere. Not because removing street murals saves lives [in fact, evidence suggests they improve street safety], but because they happen to celebrate the existence of queer people.

Remove all the street murals you want, we’ll still be here.

Many American engineers responded to my multi-stage ped crossing video saying that they can't do Dutch-style ped green waves with American equipment.

But the City of Madison, WI keeps proving them all wrong. Here's @jerryschippa.bsky.social showing one off:

Got honked at for obeying signal separation today. Driver luckily realized they were in the wrong but the placement of the signal was so obvious. Wondering how long it’ll take for drivers to get the hang of it

"Separated bike lanes reduce collisions and save lives."

It's really that simple. The research is ample. But our leaders and, sadly, our neighbors have chosen to ignore all that to coddle drivers and protect parking. Deaths like those of John Corcoran and Minh-Thi Nguyen are policy choices.

Happy to see this new signal separation in Boston along Western. And guess what, the compliance is good! That’s what happens when signals are well designed. Putting the right turn signal directly over the turn lane helps a lot. Wish it had backplates though.

“It’s every light & every corner & every time a car almost turns into you — it’s really scary & it’s just time to consider something a little bit radical to save people from getting hurt … It shouldn’t take another fatality to motivate change.”

It’s not radical at all. It’s actually common sense.
