This is an extremely interesting article about the collapse of early farming societies across Europe around ~5000 BC.

We like to think of prehistoric times as being largely peaceful, but it seems early civilisations weren't immune to ritualistic violence & cultural collapse.
Headless bodies hint at why Europe’s first farmers vanished
Wave of mass brutality accompanied the collapse of the first pan-European culture

Evidence from New Zealand shows that families felt gratitude and relief when their loved ones were no longer forced into drawn-out suffering, and they no longer had to witness it. #AssistedDying

Professor Chris Whitty reminds us that end-of-life choices aren’t one-size-fits-all. Some want every extra day, others want comfort and dignity for fewer days. Both choices deserve equal respect. #AssistedDying

I’m so happy to see this.

@johnsweeneyroar.bsky.social is one of our own. Like @thenerve.news he’s an old Observer hand. Later at BBC he did everything, but in 2018, he found himself blocked from one particular subject…Russia & Brexit.

Please give him a hand…Sweeney’s coming home 👏👏👏
Sorcery in Caerphilly:
@johnsweeneyroar.bsky.social visits the Welsh valleys on the trail of a Russian spy, his wife, a Reform politician taking bribes, party leader Nigel Farage and a vanishing by-election candidate.

‘The threat couldn’t be more urgent and imminent. Yet here we are, still putting our head in the sand.’

@carolecadwalla.bsky.social says it’s ‘peculiar’ that the case of Farage ally Nathan Gill admitting to making pro-Russia speeches for cash isn’t being followed more closely.

I wonder if we could apply all those captions to politicians and deport those that fail the test? Have you ever been to Rwanda, Katie?

I only have nostalgia for a time when I had never heard of Nigel Farage.
Reform UK says it’ll ‘reset’ Britain inch by inch.

But to what?

Smog, slums and Section 28? Their nostalgic fantasy hides a dangerous truth.

Ahead of Germany’s election, with anti-immigrant sentiment rising, they released viral videos showing life without immigrants.

History proves that when a country starts erasing certain people, it doesn’t end well.

Almost half of Spanish hunters are over 60. It was definitely a hobby on the wane a few years back. A surprising number of younger ones I knew sold their shotguns to buy cameras instead. Still enjoyed the country walks and the stalking without killing random wildlife.
