We are three crones who have been swapping smut since we were maidens and therefore spend a lot of time yelling about romance books.

Primarily managed by Holly.

I promised lots of links to Ye Olde Blogge, so here's a round up of some of our greatest hits to get you started. 🧵
This week on Tumblereads, we're talking about chores.

There might be more toilet talk than normal.

(We are now on the hunt for a romance book where people clean toilets, arguably the least sexy chore.)
Tumblereads: Chores
This week on Tumblereads, we're talking about chores: what literary purpose they might serve and whether we like reading about characters doing them. Show Notes: Fated Mates Podcast: The Gorilla Twins Episode, which is about The Earl Takes All by Lorraine Heath (here’s Holly’s review) The book Erin was gifted about date nights at home: If you’re interested in Allie Winters, you can learn more about her books in this author spotlight. Review: Tapout by Nicole Disney

I wanted more from the romance and less from the fight scenes, but this was still a pretty interesting read.
Review: Tapout by Nicole Disney (2025)
Heat Factor: The sex scenes are barely a blip between the lovingly and viscerally described fight sequences. Character Chemistry: I am much more invested in Laila’s relationship with fighting than her relationship with Harlow. Plot: After washing out of the UFC, Laila starts hanging out at an underground fight promotion—and said promotion’s extremely hot owner. Overall: This book took me more than a week to read.

Review: The God and the Gumiho by Sophie Kim

Come for the Korean mythology and worldbuilding, stay for the grumpy x grumpy romance and the delightful dry humor
Review: The God and the Gumiho by Sophie Kim (2024)
Fate’s Thread, Book #1 Heat Factor: There’s a little something something Character Chemistry: grumpy x grumpy Plot: Seokga is a fallen god trying to clean up his mess to get back to Okhwang. Hani is an infamous gumiho who’s found herself in Seogka’s crosshairs. To interfere with Seogka’s hunt for her, Hani becomes Seogka’s assistant, but they find themselves in a much more dire search for a demon trying to destroy the mortal realm of Iseung.

A question for fellow members of #romancelandia: would you buy an indie book from a first-time romance author if print was your only option?
November 12, 2025 at 3:09 PM
Alex pretty much summed it up. No other words are possible right now.
November 12, 2025 at 3:03 PM
Ok #romancelandia (especially histrom readers), inquiring minds want to know: any recs for wallflower romances that fully embrace the trope that were published in the last 5 or so years?
November 12, 2025 at 2:57 PM
Today on the blog, we're talking wallflowers, and the real question is: is this trope still a big thing in romance?
Let’s Talk Tropes: Wallflowers
Bottom line: Do you like the wallflower trope? Erin: I used to like it a lot. There’s something to be said for being seen for oneself through a veil of social ineptitude or difficulty with upward mobility. Now, though, I tend to get hung up on the portrayal unless it’s framed juuuuuuust right. Holly: I also used to like it a lot…when I was an angsty, somewhat shy teenager.

Plan to read: probably 0 if I'm being honest
Ahhh Goodreads Choice Awards season. Time to feel massively humbled about my knowledge of contemporary literature.

This week on Tumblereads, we're talking about heroes who are Bad Men.

Like, real bad, murdery, boundary-pushing, walking-red-flag type guys.
Tumblereads: Dark Heroes
This conversation was inspired by the books of S.J. Tilly: The Alliance Series aka: the first series that was just deeply troubling (but also kinda hot?) Buy on Amazon The Sin Series aka the second series, which is still red flag city but doesn't go as hard Buy on Amazon Posts We Mentioned: Our recent mafia let’s talk tropes post…

We're all about helping people find the right way to get books (especially folks who want to disconnect from Amazon), but, unfortunately, Erin's here to say that Everand ain't it.
I’m breaking up with Everand
When I started using Everand, I wanted to shout to everyone about it. Many of the indie books that I couldn’t get at the library were available there (especially audiobooks), and I didn’t have to pay per title like on Audible. Or use up all my Hoopla borrows. Essentially, it functioned as a subscription library: pay the subscription fee, borrow books as desired.

I'm in Austin, where the electoral news was…less great than elsewhere in the country.

But I also worked the polls yesterday, and I have never seen an hour-long wait near a college campus for a ballot that was entirely opaque constitutional amendments. I'm trying to see this as a small sign of hope.

I don't pay a ton of attention to the analytics side of the blog, mainly because the data is not going to change our behavior (this is a hobby, not a side hustle).

But! This Thanksgiving Romance listicle we made a few years ago is suddenly getting a lot of views:

I went to buy this and discovered that I *already own* it. The danger of an out of control TBR is that I have so many treasures buried in my kindle (and on my bookshelf) that I haven't read yet.

That is also the joy of an out of control TBR
It’s officially the time of year where people ask for Xmas romances and I pop up with a story that’s not quite that. 😂 RIDING NICK is a silly, sexy, 99-cent short in which a burned-out, 40-something, Bengali atheist has a personal encounter with Santa’s North Pole.
