Peak urbanism for me is walking to buy groceries with my cart and choosing between 3 different grocery stores; walking to get light bulbs at a nearby hardware store; and walking my kids to public school.

Aka “the basics.”
Peak urbanism is walking to buy myself a donut, getting an Americano, and a new bouquet for the living room.

Wowww: 😵 "Surface temperatures that hot can cause severe contact burns within minutes or seconds. ... Among the 136 patients treated for these burns last year, the average hospital stay was 12 days. About 10% of those patients died as a result of their injuries, the hospital reports."
IMPORTANT: NASA map shows temperatures of up to 160 degrees on Phoenix streets & sidewalks. All that unrelenting concrete and asphalt for cars. Not nearly enough trees. They start with ridiculous heat that’s only getting worse with the #ClimateCrisis, & then make it much worse with bad design.
NASA map shows temperatures up to 160 degrees on Phoenix streets, sidewalks
Data from June 19, when the daily high was 106 degrees, shows asphalt across the city that day was between 120 and 160 degrees.

What on earth is going on here Oxfordshire Labour?
Labour is calling for Hitchcock Way in Didcot, the road leading east from Didcot Parkway station, to be reconfigured as three lanes for motor traffic. The road is currently two lanes with a cycleway and footpath on each side.

Just because Trump has “paused” tariffs on Canada for 30 days, it doesn’t mean we should stop EMERGENCY-LEVEL work to:

- Remove provincial trade barriors.
- Significantly diversify our trade globally and mitigate the damage any U.S. Govt can do to us.
- Strengthen our ability to defend ourselves.

There’s a lot of apps out there which basically could have been a spreadsheet, but look a lot nicer at the cost of a monthly subscription.

Remember this one? Before & after of a brain after a 20 minute walk — why walking to work, or school, or just to get the intellectual juices flowing, is linked to better creative & intellectual performance. Among MANY other benefits to you and to society.

Design and build more walkable cities.

Good thread.
Never, basically. The cost is nearly irrelevant, batteries are a poor choice operationally. Having to charge them takes time and effort and serious infrastructure, reducing fleet availability. The massive weight and limited power makes the trains slower to accelerate and more damaging to track.

I thought I'd try Bluesky since it appears many people from Twitter are moving there. Within 24 hours I've got a follow from someone promoting their sexual content. I thought that was the point of moving away from Twitter - to avoid that kind of spam.
